Review of High's Restaurant

High's Restaurant
Ranked #1 of 2 Restaurants in Monterey
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: $6 - $12
Cuisines: American
Description: New owners have spruced up the place and serve real food - and the best food in an otherwise dismal dining town. Many D.C. residents spend a weekend here and can't find info - won't know the place finally has edible food. Please check out their mountain trout - homemade desserts and breads, fresher food than this town has seen in years!

I had dinner and breakfast there. The food was good. I had the ruebin sandwich and small salad. It was very good. I was pleasantly surprised that they would make poached eggs for breakfast. It could use some updating here and there.

“Old fashioned Diner”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

We had dinner here. The booths were filled with "I was here" type of graffiti. The food was fine, good portion, very reasonable price, nothing special. It serves a wide range of items, including sandwiches, fried fish, chicken, steak for dinner. There were many locals when we were there. It`s right across from the Highland Inn and it's right on the road to West Virginia, so there were lots of tourists as well. The place was busy on the Friday evening.

Plain country food, but well done. I would definitely recommend the place. I ate breakfast and dinner here.

This place is adorable. Old fashioned booths. The food was very good and the service was nice. Had the pulled pork sandwich and it was definitely worth it.

“The Real Deal”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

This place is the real deal, folks. Very enjoyable experience. Although the meals are typical diner fare, the atmosphere is quite an experience. All the fixtures, pieces, furnishings are right out of the 1930's....a real eyeful it is so interesting. Pastries are home made and absolutely delicious.
