Out of all the places we've stayed, I believe Jim and Lorraine came closer to treating their guests like "family" than any other hosts we've experienced. By the time you leave, you may feel like you should be offering to wash the dishes! The meals by Lorraine are fantastic; the house, which Jim built all by himself, is incredible. And the view is simply unbelievable. You have to drive a ways to get there, and you may have to drive quite a ways to get to a restaurant you like. BUT Hiighland County is so beautiful I'll bet you don't mind the ride at all!

Room Tip: See it the room with the 75 (100?) mile view is available.

My family of four (two children) stayed at the Laurel Point Retreat for one night on our way to ski at Snowshoe, WV. Jim and Lorraine accomodated our late arrival, during a snow storm no less, without a problem. Our room was spacious and warm and even had heated tiles in the bathroom. It was tough to get out of the comfortable beds the next morning but we could smell the great breakfast already. Jim and Lorraine made us a wonderful and early breakfast that fueled us for a day of skiing. They even allowed our kids to help grind the morning coffee on their antique grinder. We had a great stay, the home is beautiful and the hosts were friendly and helpful. We highly recommend the Laurel Point Retreat!

Were here for a wedding over the July 4th holiday. Jim and Lorraine the owners are wonderful hosts at this very clean, well located, scenic B&B. Great Location 2 minutes outside of Monterey.Enjoy a great hike in the woods with Jodie, the Owners dog leaving from the Laurel Point Retreat. Food for breakfast each day is awesome. Comfort of their guests is the number 1 priority of Jim and Lorraine. Do yourself a favor and enjoy the retreat for at least 2-3 days.

When we were greeted by Jim when we arrived, I asked if, "This were heaven."
This is such a special place that you want to share it with those you love.We have traveled the world over, but this is as good s it gets.
After 2 nights, we truly felt as if we were part of the family.Even Jodi, the ever present dog, adopted us.
Reward yourself!!!!!

Laurel Point Retreat is one of the BEST B&B's we've ever had the pleasure of weekending in. The main house is a log home that was moved to a beautiful mountain peak and then lovingly restored and updated.

Each of the rooms has a distinct personality, the views from the house and several of the rooms are breathtaking, the breakfasts are delicious, and Jim & Lorraine are perfect hosts. We highly recommend taking a short walk with Jim to see their Highland Cows and hearing some wonderful tales along the way. I'd like to mention too that their website's pictures are very good and accurate.

If you're planning to be in the Monterey, VA area, make a reservation at Laurel Point & give yourself a real treat!

Room Tip: Try to get the Mountain View room!

I needed a place to stay for just one night on my way from the DC area to West Virginia to do rock climbing. Most of the places near my ultimate destination had terrible reviews, so I widened my search area a bit and found the Laurel Point Retreat. Jim was so gracious. He gave me a tour of the whole property upon my arrival, with the resident dog (Jody) following along. The place is meticulously kept, with quaint furnishings in all the rooms... but the real treat is outside. The view from the porch and patio is absolutely stunning. I sat and watched the sun set over the mountains, and I wished I booked more nights there.

Breakfast was an egg & cheese casserole (it also had sausage, but Jim baked half of it without the meat especially for me), buckwheat pancakes, and coffee. Perfect! I hope I can stay there again someday.
