“Wonderful vacation.”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This was my first trip to Smith Mountain Lake. My wife, two 20+ year old kids and son in law were along. We rented a townhouse in Moneta, VA. The house was very nice, had bedrooms for eight, four baths, pool table and dock with a million dollar view of the lake from a nice cove, all at a very reasonable price. We rented a pontoon boat at the state park. The boat was reliable and sipped gas with a 50 hp outboard. We took in the nearby drive-in movie, 4 wineries and 2 breweries. As far as I was concerned, this was living the dream, lakefront house with a dock and boat. I'll be back.

“Huge, gorgeous lake”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

The lake is beautiful from every shore, and large enough so that it takes more than a day to explore all its coves, inlets, and islands. My girlfriend and I rented a very nice lakeside house with a dock, canoe, and fantastic view for 5 days, which made our vacation exactly what we wanted--fun and relaxing. We got to know our wonderful next door neighbors and socializing with them made out vacation all the more special.

“Hidden Jewel”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This little lake(20,000 acres) is a hidden jewel.Great fishing and except on holiday weekends a fantastic place to just go for a boat ride.Takes a bit of practice to get comfortable with the coves which look alike but you really can't run into too much trouble (as in getting lost) and they're all beautiful.Kid friendly for towing in a tube or skiing except maybe as I've mentioned, on holidays when the jet skis buzz like bees. All in all, worth the trip to get there.Oh,ask how to get to the Homestead Creamery for ice cream that will blow you away.

“Awesome lake!!!”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Quite simply, it's huge, very nice and clean, lots of trees around, some mountains to look at, and a couple nice places to get dockside meals or a cocktail.

“Beautiful and remote”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

Our family spent a week renting a house and a ski boat on Smith Mountain lake. We were on the more remote side of the lake near the dam, which made boating more enjoyable but dinner more of an excursion. It generally took a 30 minute drive to get to a restaurant each night. The lake is beautiful. The mountains rise right out of the water. We had a great time with a family of 6 (kids aged 9, 14, 19). We had never done anything with a boat before, but we learned to drive it as well as ski, tube, and kneeboard behind the boat. I will caution that if you have never done these types of activities before, one day is not enough for a family to learn. It takes practice to be able to ski or kneeboard. Make certain you give yourselves at least a couple days or some in your group will leave thinking it is impossible.
