We have just returned from Primland. We went with good friends and it was a wonderful experience despite the fog and rain. In fact we were never able to be outside but it made no difference!
Our room was huge, the linens beautiful and the service impeccable. The fires in the lobby were always tended, the staff provided assistance, professionalism, and kindness at every request.

The spa is gorgeous and the fitness center is well equipped if you are interested. Golf is the main attraction but we were there to experience this new spot.

The food is excellent especially the breakfasts. I must say that it is very expensive!! My old-fashioned cost $16.00 which gives you an example.
If you need "outside" entertainment (ie) shops, restaurants, etc. There is nothing. In fact the road from the entrance is 6 miles.

I am certain in the fall and spring it is gorgeous!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a suite with a mountain view.

Weekend trip in March. Although we went with a promotional deal, we never felt like second class citizens. The staff is top notch, the rooms were spacious and comfortable and
the setting is unique. We enjoyed the Star Walk on a clear, cold night and walking on
several of the trails. The meals we had at the restaurants were good, but lacking "wow".
Loved the fire pit. All around good experience.

Sitting in the lobby and asked if we could get hot cider. The response was "We have just made a batch!" Then they delivered the skewers and incredients so that we could make smores. Food is excellent; rooms are excellent; activities are excellent. One of the best vacations we have ever had. Go Go Go - You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Don't think there is a bad room here.

We went for 2 nights in March. I'd describe it as a 5 star Manhattan hotel dropped on an isolated mountain top in southern Virginia. The views are amazing and there are several easy trails that get you a variety of looks. The 2 lodge restaurants are great but its still wise to bring a snack or 2 to enjoy while in the outdoors. Given the altitude, this must be a great place to escape the summer heat and the indoor pool is both pretty to look at and ideal for lap swimming. The steam room and sauna in the spa are also first rate. I'd definitely go again even though its a haul from where I live.

From the views to the property to the food to the activities to the service to even the linens and bath products, I can't say enough good things. We absolutely loved our stay. I was so sad to leave. Another reviewer mentioned that a stay at Primland is like a stay at a rich uncle's property - that's exactly it! You feel as comfortable as if you're staying with family and as pampered as if you're staying at the Ritz. Waking up at Primland is waking up with the whole world in front of you at your fingertips. The best part for me had to be the service. We were just bowled over by their kindness and generosity.

The only thing I would say is that the hair dryers in the lodge are weak, so if you have long hair you might want to bring your own hair dryer.

Room Tip: The view from the lodge facing out over the golf course was stunning.

I challenge anyone to find a place to stay anywhere where the service is better than here at Primland, not only are all of the facilities absolutely amazing and beautiful but the staff will go out of their way literally to make sure you have the most comfortable stay. I booked a night in the Woodpecker west cottage for my wife's birthday, I wanted to do something special and even though it was about a four hour drive from Charlottesville, it was definitely worth it. I can only imagine how beautiful it is there in the fall, you are surrounded by mountains and trees everywhere. This will definitely be where we come back for a longer stay. I cannot thank everyone there enough for going out of their way to make us comfortable and exceeded my expectations of customer service. No matter what you plan on doing, whether a family vacation or a romantic getaway, you will not be disappointed.

What a treasure! The resort is immaculate and a complete 5 star experience from the reception area to the bar to the guest room to the dining room to the spa experience!

Cannot say enough good things about this place. We booked to return as we checked out.

Escape There are many people at Primland with an abiding respect for the land, who know the sounds and smells of the forest so intimately, they will open your eyes to the simple pleasure of a mountain getaway at this refined East Coast vacation resort. They will show you the subtleties of nature and reacquaint you with the restorative powers of silence. Your server will remember just how you take your drink, your children's names and that you like a freshly baked cookie after lunch. You will sense the love your wilderness guide has for the mountain and all its creatures, and the depth of his expertise. You will always find a kind word, authentic humor and an open heart. It was the vision of Primland's founder, Didier Primat, to create a place of immense beauty that offers his guests a return to simple human pleasures in an environment of refined authenticity and sensuality. He developed Primland in an eco-conscious and thoughtful manner, as the ultimate retreat for world-class golf, refined dining and outdoor activities. Our love of the land is expressed in our extensive efforts to minimize our impact on nature, the freshness of our food, the many organic, sustainable ingredients we source locally or grow in our organic garden and the care with which we look after our guests. Didier Primat instilled his passion for Primland in every member of his family and staff , and they carry forward his legacy with soul, with heart and with a commitment to genuine hospitality. Art is an important part of the Primland experience. We consider hospitality to be an art that involves sharing emotion and pleasure through attention to even the most subtle detail. We also feel that surrounding you with inspired pieces of art enhances your experience. Throughout The Lodge, you will find hand-selected works by American artists as well as authentic and rare Aboriginal paintings from the most remote Australian territories. ... more   less
