“Cool, central, in-room sauna!”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

We were here for a week and found the resort, high up the mountain, a cool summertime retreat by 10-15 degrees, from the valley. Units are two stories- bedrooms upstairs. Gas fireplace for chill mornings. Downstairs bathroom includes Jacuzzi tub and a sauna, a nice perk not found everywhere. Typical unit amenities. Patio on golf course with lots of visiting deer. A small general store on site. we didn't use it, but it is a convenience in lieu of going several miles down the mountain into a town to a grocery or C-store. A well-used laundry also on property, tho several washers & dryers were out of service. From this location during our week, we took excursions to New Market Battlefield & Virginia Museum of the Civil War, Harrisonburg, Antietam, Harpers Ferry, north and south on the parkway from a central entrance point to Shenandoah National Park, many other Civil War historic points of interest, Monticello, and Michie Tavern.

We won a free weekend at Massanutten, and were a bit worried going into it, based on other reviews. I'm happy to report that it wasn't nearly as bad as the others were saying, but maybe that's because we were prepared for the worst. :-) It is a timeshare resort, and the only reason they give free weekends is to get you there so they can try to talk you into buying a timeshare.

It is true that the amenities are very spread out, but it's a resort on a mountain, so that didn't seem strange. There were several options for hiking trails, as well as mountain biking. They make use of the ski slopes in summer by way of "grass tubing", which sounded like a TON of fun, but we had an infant along. It's also good to know that this is not an "all-inclusive" resort--you pay extra for ziplining, go-karts, etc. The little general store is overpriced, but you're only 10 minutes away from a Food Lion. There are a couple of restaurants on the resort, and the pizza place even delivers up to your condo. :-)

The condo they put us in was older, but still nice. Two large TVs (cable channels included), a nice radio/CD player, kitchenette (with some dishes & cookware, hotplate, microwave, toaster oven). The bed was comfortable, and we had a jacuzzi, and a deck/balcony with a beautiful view.

The water park was GREAT!!! Lazy river, some wicked water slides, and lots of fun stuff for kids of all ages. The water park is open to the public, at $33/adult, which didn't seem bad to me. We may actually drive down just to enjoy that again. :-)

I wouldn't buy a timeshare, but we did have a great weekend. It just seems like if you're going to spend THAT MUCH MONEY for one week out of a year, the resort activities should be included.

The accommodations were average. Clean and the beds were ok. Unfortunately, extra pillows were not available. Had to purchase our own. In order to get clean towels, it cost $15 to get 2 sets. Not buying them just changing ours for clean ones. The joke soon became wondering what else they charged for.

We were at Massanutten in the summer. One word - waterpark! The kids LOVED it. We got a pass for 3 days. It's too expensive for more than that. Other days we travelled around the area - Luray Caverns (fantastic), Monticello, Skyline Drive. There are several wineries (Crosskeys) in the area I would have liked to visit but didn't get to it. What really knocked me out was how spacious the rooms were. The living room was huge. Kitchen/dining area big. There was a very large whirlpool tub for two in the main bathroom as well as a shower. The master bedroom had its own bathroom with a shower/tub. The king bed was a little hard. We only had a partial kitchen which means if you want to cook you use a 2 burner hot plate or an electric frypan or electric griddle... not a problem.
The highlight was definitely the arcade and waterpark for the kids. My 10 year old son learned to surf on the Flowrider, very cool. One thing that was a little weird - no towels available. You bring your own or buy them at $17.00 a pop.
Staff was accommodating. Crafts were great on a rainy day (we did basket weaving and made tie dye shirts). All in all a very successful vacation. I would return in a heartbeat!

We booked for the week of the 4th of July at the Summit. The room we had (2bedroom) was on the top floor and was very spacious and clean. The views from our back screened in porch were great. My grandchildren loved that they could look out and see deer and woodchucks standing right below them. However, that was the good part. We travel extensively on our timeshare and this was by no means the best there is. Having to get in your car for every little thing you did was a big draw back. There is absolutely no way to walk to anything. Also, if you have a family with children be prepared to spend a lot of money doing all those terrific things that they advertise. The Waterpark is overated. $38.00 per person unless you are under 42" is alot for such a small waterpark. If you do not have your own sports equipment they will "rent" it to you this goes for everything even a ball. We went to the Woodstone pool a lot because it was the closest and it was free. The pool, however, was not really clean (hair all over) and kids were just running amuck. They did close the pool adults only for ten minutes each hour, even the kiddie pool which I didn't understand. If you cannot do stairs be careful where they put you. I guess we are just more used to resorts where you walk out your door for many of the ameneties and they are included. The coupe de gratis was having to take the sheets off all the beds at the end of our stay and leaving them outside the door. Really?? I'm on vacation..food was mediocre. We came, we saw and we will never go back.

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues let the front desk know before you get there. Many of the rooms have qu...

We stayed in one of the older condos at Eagle Trace, but it was one of the cleanest of anywhere we have ever stayed; also large and well-equiped. We thought the beds were very comfortable (and we sleep on an adjustable Tempur-pedic at home). The only problem was we were on the top floor with no elevators. They offered anything a family could want, from awesome pools and Water Park to an abundance of activites and three bus tours. The scenery is beautiful and we also visited Luray Caverns and the VA Museum of the Civil War which were nearby. I would recommend this resort to anyone.

Room Tip: If you have any problems walking, ask for a ground level condo.
