Hampton Inn Fort Chiswell
Ranked #1 of 3 Hotels in Max Meadows
Reviewed July 7, 2012

For years we have found this Hampton Inn to be both convenient and comfortable when we travel through the Fort Chiswell area. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Along with the typical Hampton Inn amenities, the beds have fitted sheets, and beds which are made correctly. The staff is always very gracious.

The only down side is that the hotel still offers smoking rooms, which appears to limit the available rooms that you may like. It would also be nice if the smoking area was NOT immediately outside the front door, which requires us to run a smokey gauntlet in and out of the building.

We stayed here for a night, breaking the long drive from Florida to Pennsylvania. It was clean, the beds comfortable, and the free breakfast was good (typical for Hampton Inns). You can tell the place is older, but still nice for a quick overnight stay.

If you're traveling down the interstate and need a place to stop, or if you have business in the immediate area, then this place is just fine. There just isn't a whole lot of reason to stop in Ft. Chiswell since the big outlet mall closed a few years ago. Eating options in the vicinity are extremely limited. You may need to drive the seven or eight miles into Wytheville for better choices. Interstate access is excellent. The rooms are great. The beds are comfortable and the place is pretty quiet. The staff is friendly and efficient. The breakfast is above average for Hampton Inns. Get a room on the front. The view out the back windows is a little depressing. It's a steep dirt bank covered in rip-rap (big rocks) only a few feet from the window. The view out the front is ok.

Room Tip: Get a room on the front. The view out the back is pretty awful.

Nice place to stay to break up the drive to Florida from Northeast states. Friendly, mature, helpful desk staff. Nice clean rooms. Breakfast bar as good as any Hampton. Nice business center. Room 303 looks like it was recently redecorated. King bed with newer sheets. Nice recliner. LG flat screen TV. View is of the back side of what appears to be a limestone quarry.

My wife and I stayed here for one night on the way to our timeshare in GA. The king size bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The TV only had 4 high def channels which was a bummer and they didn't have a channel that I was hoping to watch a hockey game on. Also, the high speed Internet seemed slower than other hotels we've stayed in. I lost $1.75 in the soda machine on the 4th floor and the shower completely shut off right in the middle of my wife's shower. This sounds like a lot of negatives but we had a nice time overall and we would probably stay here again.

Needed a place for the family on the way home from WV. Used a coupon out of a magazine and got a room for $84 for the evening for the 4 of us. Typical HI room. Quick check in, nice room, bed was a little too soft and fluffy for me but that is ok. Breakfast served in morning, Gravy was cold but the waffles were great. Overall pretty typical Hampton Inn and would stay here again if need arose.
