“Perfect Anniversary Dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

My husband and I went to the Bavarian Chef on Sunday night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The menu selection may take some time, since you are truly tempted to order more than just one entrée - everything sounds delicious. The one MUST HAVE is their speciality - a roasted red pepper soup with lump crabmeat sprinkled on top. It's to DIE for. The restaurant atmosphere is cozy with a lovely German décor. We had a wonderful time and I highly recommend it.

“Outstanding Authentic German Cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

If you've never tried the weiner schnizel or the purple cabbage, you definitely don't know what you are missing! Even my 8-year-old loves to eat there! We ate in January, so the weather was somewhat questionable for the almost 2-hour drive. Still, it was more than worth it! We usually get double order of the purple cabbage because of the taste. We have yet to order dessert, because we're usually so full. Can't wait to return!

“Great to finally stop in after driving past for YEARS!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

Have driven by the restaurant for years and finally had time to stop in for dinner. The weather was awful and we didn't have a reservation, but they seated us immediately in the upstairs dining room. The portions were almost absurd, but the flavor was delicious. Husband couldn't stop raving about the three sausage/brauten sampler he had. Deserts looked unbelievably good, and we were disappointed we hadn't left any room for dessert. We were on our way out of town and knew we wouldn't have a place to store it or we would have taken some to go. YUMMY!

“Neat Bavarian experience and food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013

We wanted to get some sauerbrauten....so off we went. Bit of a drive for us, but worth it. We were seated upstairs and started with the soft pretzel with two sauces and a roasted red pepper soup, both very good. We both ordered the sauerbrauten with 2 sides each of creamed corn, spatzle, potato pancakes w apple sauce and sour cream (only available certain nights, it seems), and potato dumplings. All very good, but might not get the dumplings next time. Accompanying dinner we had a couple good glasses of red wine, then the baked Alaska for dessert (must order a day ahead). Way too much to eat, but the baked Alaska was a neat experience for a special occasion. Eating quarters on the side tables upstairs are a little cramped and cozy, but tables upstairs and downstairs allow for more elbow room. Became a bit noisy upstairs as well. Overall, we'll go back! Great for birthdays and larger gatherings, but not so much romance. We paid $103.16 plus tip. You could easily scale that back.

“Great experience.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

March 29th, 2013.
We just returned home from the Bavarian Chef, Madison. There were 8 of us in our group, 6 adults and 2 teenagers, The meal was exceptional, the atmosphere, and the service was perfect.
Kimberly, our server, was very outgoing and helpful, made us welcome and satisfied.
Each of us had something different, each meal had great portions, I had the cordon blue and it was great.
Each one of us were pleased with the experience.
If you like German food, in my opinion, you need to try The Bavarian Chef.
P.S. ask for Kimberly.
