My husband and I stayed one night. We got a suite that faced a construction site. The room was very nice, but when you go outside to walk along the bridge to go to the main building, it smells like raw sewage. The bathtub in our room would not stop up, so no way to enjoy a nice hot bath. The trains run all night and even though we brought our lite jazz CD to help drowned out the train, that does not work. The breakfast was a joke. It was an ice cold muffin with some kind of cheese, warm OJ, fruit and warm yogurt. Needless to say, I did not eat the breakfast. Oh and they only give you one breakfast for 2 people.

We paid almost 300 dollars for a room that was maybe worth 150 if that.

Thank you for taking time to post a review. I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us. As you can tell by most of our TripAdvisor posts by guest, when they leave us, they are saying “when can we come back?!”

I wish I had an opportunity to speak with you during your stay, or even now, but I can’t locate your reservation based on your reviewer name. It sounds like you visited during the on-start of a necessary repair to the City’s Downtown water system adjacent to the property. While I certainly appreciate it’s not a desirable welcome, it is an unfortunate necessary evil, and the final piece of the Bluffwalk expansion project along the James River that is thankfully coming to a close.

The tracks that pass behind the Craddock Terry along the James River are freight lines and have no set schedule. Trains may not run through at all, or may pass by a couple times during the course of the day. We have investigated ways to lessen the number of horns that are blown, and also to change the signaling arms. Any path to change it would cost us several million dollars, which, for a small boutique hotel is not practical. So, I won't make any excuses for the train noises – they are here. I think most guests chalk it all up to being part of the experience. I will say that we have received so many comments and notes from guests who grew up near train tracks and the sound of the horn reminds them of home. It's nostalgic for them.

Lastly, I can appreciate that our breakfast offering may not have suited your personal tastes. Generally a property of our styling does not provide a complimentary breakfast. We see this as a unique opportunity to provide a delivered service for our guests which really differentiates us. The delivery of the European continental style breakfast is attributable to a boutique hotel and the fact that it arrives in an old-fashioned shoe shine kit is generally a big hit with our clientele. The croissant and small wheel of brie is quite attractive to most, combined with fresh cut fruit, fresh juice and jams is usually well received. Those more familiar with the chain hotels may find this a little light in content.

It sounds like a combination of variables culminated leaving you with an unpleasant experience, which is not the norm or our wish for you. When you have a moment, please contact the Hotel and ask for me directly. My name is Todd Swindell, I am the Hotel Director. I would love to find out more about your stay and determine how we can make your next one much more enjoyable.

Outstanding customer service the entire time during my stay. All staff friendly, more than accommodating and went beyond in every measure to assure our happiness and comfort. Sheryl and Adrian the maid staff, Ali at front desk, Tyler at front desk , and the "Happy Whistler", Nathan. From assisting with bed linen requests, to sound machine, to getting bikes to use and suggestions, to helping open doors and offering to assist with umbrella openings, to delivering additional toiletries. These guys are awesome and the room was great. Only issue would be the water problem with the shower/tub combination that despite door being shut, water gets out and onto tile floor, which could be a slipping issue. But, the customer service as excellent as it is, makes that one issue insignificant. Would rec'd Liking Southern Living on FB and you will get some goodies w/ your booking as this is a " STASH " hotel and a "SOUTHERN LIVING HOTEL" ; check it out as rewards come with each that are both FREE to join.

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a view of the river; ask for a separate shower and tube in your room; ask f...

Stayed here for the last night of our honeymoon trip, we are both absolutely in love with this hotel. Wife said that we had saved the best for last (and every other place we stayed at during the week was great at that!) . Loved the room, we were on the top floor of the old tobacco warehouse building and enjoyed the river view. Bathroom was excellent as well, nice and roomy and my height appreciated the large tub. Great service from the entire hotel staff as well as our dinner at Shoemakers restaurant. Hotel shipped back the pillowcase from the pillow we left behind without a single issue, pillow wasn't a big deal but the pillowcase was part of a new sheet set from a shower gift. Train was a non issue, didn't hear any that night, only a couple the next morning.

Between the bizarre ticking noise in the actual room and the construction that started at 7 in the morning right outside our window, I barely slept at all. This hotel seems to be struggling, the decor is shabby in many places with stains on the furniture and rips in the throw pillows, a sash on the window kept falling down. Also, the continental breakfast is only for one person no matter how many people are staying in your room, you have to pay $6 per person extra for breakfast. No room service in Sundays. Quite disappointing actually and I would not recommend it again.

Room Tip: Don't get one on the south side or on the top floor - apparently the roof is very noisy which we...

We had a family reunion here and this hotel gets top marks from start to finish. The sales manager helped us to plan every step of the way . She was responsive and caring. The hotel is gorgeous , the service friendly and the rooms are comfortable, elegant & unique. The delicious breakfast arrived at our door each morning. We had a catered event one evening . The service was outstanding & the food was delicious. We ate lunch in the brew pub in the hotel . The food was good , the ambiance delightful and the staff accommodated our large group. Special efforts were also made to accommodate my physical handicap. This is a very special hotel , well worth a trip to Lynchburg!

Room Tip: All the rooms are amazing. Ask for advice from the staff!

LOVED IT! We had a very modern room, with character. All the amenities of a high-end room without the sterility of a newly-built hotel. [Character included wood ceiling and ceiling beams.] Yes, there was a train that sounded its horn in the middle of the night, but I grew up with the sound, so it was comforting. Construction going on across the street meant we got up early on a weekday, but it did not dampen the high regards for our stay at this hotel. Service was impecable and the continental breakfast delivered to our door surpassed our expectations. We will definitely stay here again.
