“We stumbled upon this charming hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2012

We stumbled upon this charming hotel a year ago when passing through Lynchburg and took a chance in staying there. We found it great then and this year made it a point to stay there again. All of the staff members were extremely friendly and accommodating. They obviously take pride in the hotel. The rooms are large and comfortable. Far better than any generic motel/hotel. You won't be disappointed in your stay.

As most of the other reviews have stated, this is a charming hotel. The room was lovely and interesting, and the staff went out of their way to be accommodating. My room was incredibly spacious -- perfect for a multi-night stay. I'm extremely picky about housekeeping, and the room was immaculate.

The hotel had lots of thoughtful touches. I was quite fond of the breakfast-in-a-shoeshine-box concept; it was wonderful not to have to deal with the usual common dining area provided with the general continental breakfast experience. The room had a Keurig coffeemaker and included wine glasses and a corkscrew (the one thing you always forget!). Also, the fitness room on the first floor had a small refrigerator stocked with bottled water -- a thoughtful touch.

Although the trains were quite close, the front desk has noise machines available, if needed. Instead, I just used a white noise app and was not bothered by them at all.

The Craddock-Terry has two restaurants on site, but is practically next door to a bistro and a bar, and is in walking distance to other dining as well as shopping.

I also thought the room rates were quite reasonable considering the size of the room and the quality of the hotel. Not only is the Craddock-Terry the best hotel in Lynchburg, it's also a great deal.

This is a delightful hotel. This former shoe factory turned hotel has kept all of its charm with so many original features including brick walls, beamed ceilings, etc. The staff was extremely accomodating, the breakfast in a shoeshine box was innovative, and Buster Brown, the resident dog made himself available for belly rubs whenever we wanted. There is a lot to like about this hotel, including its location. On Friday evening we heard music coming from down by the James River. We walked down to see a huge gathering of people, there to see the Friday summer concert series with food trucks, beer and wine vendors, etc. On Saturday a.m. we ventured up the street to find antique shops, quaint coffee shops and a really neat farmers' market. What an unexpected treat! This is all within walking distance, not to mention the two restaurants that are right there on the premises. We chose to have drinks at the bar of the more expensive restaurant: Shoemakers (they make good Cosmos!). Then on to Waterstone, a more lively and reasonably priced restaurant with an excellent selection of pizzas among many other entrees. If you do stay here and are looking for things to do, be sure to take in Poplar Forest (Jefferson's summer retreat), Point of Honor (historic home), and the Old City Cemetery.

Room Tip: If you like darker, cozy more private rooms, choose the first floor. The views are limited no matte...

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this hotel. The room was large, clean, tasteful and comfortable. Beautiful bathroom. My only complaint was the lighting. Would recommend better lighting in the dressing room and perhaps a high intensity lamp near the bed for reading. There are two very good restaurants...great pizza and their own beer. The "shoe" motif was charming and of course appropriate considering the building was once a thriving shoe factory. A complimentary breakfast is delivered each morning in a "shoeshine box". The staff went out of their way to accommodate us. We were there for a funeral, and upon learning that, they changed out rate to a bereavement discount rate.
The hotel is easy to find and to get to most places. I lived in Lynchburg as a child, so seeing so many familiar landmarks in the Riverfront area was an added treat.

We stayed at the Craddock Terry for a function with family in Lynchburg. What a little piece of heaven in the middle of a used to be area. Between the cobblestone entrance and the decor throughout the hotel we were so entranced every where we looked. The hospitality was definitely southern and smiles all the way. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is remotely close to this area. Wonderful!!
