It's cash only now and the food is good, but greasy. It was almost featured on Man vs Food, but it wasn't. My uncle also owned it from 1950's until 1970, when he died. My mom worked there during the 60's and took me to work with her every single day.

The Cav is the Cheers of Lynchburg! Walk right in and you are made to feel like you have been eating and drinking there forever. We have visited The Cav several times a year for the past decade, and it just keeps getting better. Manager Jeff keeps the friendliness alive and well, with a hug or handshake to just about everyone, as the locals wind in and out throughout the evening. A stone cold frosted beer is served by the man Dan. The bar serves a large variety of beer and wine. On a recent visit Luke made us a delicious Ruben and a ham and cheese. And what about those seasoned fries? They literally are the best on this planet with that ranch dressing that is to die for!
The Cav is definitely a local watering hole...in a good way. The ceiling is working on becoming a piece of art- completely covered with license plates that so many patrons have donated over the years. The walls are adorned with so many college pennants it makes you wonder if a patron has come from each of those colleges. SUNY Cortland was proudly presented by us!!The tables have been carved in so much they have started handing out permanent markers instead! There is a pool table and dart board. Families are invited for sure-as many former "children" of the Cav are now returning with children of their own.
The Cav does not rely on any kind of advertising, it is just there-and people know how to find it. Highly recommend this place where you know you are "home" the minute you walk in the door!

The burgers here are so delicious and the platters come with 2 sides. I highly recommend getting fries as one if not as both of your sides. It comes with homemade ranch, which if you have had ranch fries, makes for a delicious meal. If there is one bad thing I could say about it would be the difficulty finding the building. There is street parking and apartments across the street. Atmosphere is fun, almost pub like. The decor is really neat with all sorts of license plates lining the ceiling. Walking in makes you want to knock a few cold ones down with friends, get a burger in your system and play a round of pool or darts, really enjoyed it. Also staff was very relaxed. I didn't know who all worked there and who were customers, maybe a nice t-shirt with the restaurant name and a cool design would have helped. A good experience overall, right in the heart of college town.

Always one of my local favorites. You must try the fries with seasoning and ranch! The Ruben is my personal favorite but also enjoy the burger and club sandwich. Not a fancy place but a great place to enjoy delicious bar food.
