After a long day of moving my son into a new apartment (39 stairs up- no elevator) we needed a place where we could get good food and relax at the same time. We arrived at about 8PM a bit on the late side for dinner but the place was crowded. There was one table left and the 4 of us took it. The waiter immediately got us drinks (excellent brews on tap according to my husband). Yes it is bar food, but it was really good bar food. The oysters were superb and I got the fish tacos (waiter suggestion was great to take the halibut over the salmon) which had just the right amount of spiciness to them. We decided after out hard work we deserved dessert and we asked the waiter for a suggestion and we ordered 2 of the chocolate chip cookie sandwiches with ice cream which were covered by chocolate sauce and whip cream. It was sinful and well worth committing the sin. Our bill was so reasonable that we plan to go back when we visit our son again.
It doesn't look like much from the outside but well worth it once you get in!

Good food here, prepped by the new owners (Blue Marlin). The Scottish salmon and Blackened Fish Tacos were great tonight for a Valentine's treat.

During a summer trip through Lynchburg, we ate dinner at The Dahlia, a funky little bar and restaurant on Bedford Avenue. The place is tiny -- only 7 or 8 tables, and is sandwhiched in a neighborhood of tighly clustered houses and small businesses. It dates from the 1940s, and has a long and interesting history as a mix of a workingman's bar and college hangout. It's easy to miss if you're just driving by, but well worth a visit. The Dahlia is next door to the Blue Marlin fish market/restaurant, and they have the same ownership, so seafood is prominent on the menu, along with other "pub grub" and southern specialties. The food is very fresh, all very well prepared, and the bar has an excellent beer and wine selection. Servers were friendly and professional. My family of four were all very tired after a long day on the road, and were very pleased to find a high-quality, non-chain restaurant to unwind and soak in a little of the local vibe.

We went to Dahlia our first night in Lynchburg and liked it so much we went back the next night. Dahlia is small, has good food at very cheap prices and they play terrific blues music.
