Jimmy's on the James is our favorite restaurant in Lynchburg. Jimmy makes you feel welcome at the door and entertains you with his piano playing and singing. The food is always delicious and the service impeccable.

My husband took me there for my birthday last year and after looking forward to it, I was disappointed. The food was delicious, however, the music was so loud we could not have a decent conversation and it was a bit pricey.

Dropped in the restaurant while we were in town for business. Overall, we were very satisfied with the experience. We were seated at a table next to the area where the music is played. As soon as we were seated, Jimmy came over and greeted us. Our waitress was attentive and checked on us frequently. The prices for the food seemed reasonable along with the prices for glasses of wine. They do pour a pretty good glass of wine compared to some other restaurants. Even though we were seated close to the jazz musicians, we all thought that the performance added to the dining experience. After talking to some locals later the next day, they have said that the level of service is not consistent. A couple of the individuals in our party had been to the restaurant previously and stated that the service and meal was very good then. if in the area again, we would certainly consider going back to Jimmy's.

This was, hands down, the worst meal we've ever had in Lynchburg. The food was terrible (one of our fellow diners spent the night on the floor of her bathroom between bouts of sickness), the service was horrible, the music was so loud we couldn't converse, and parking was impossible. Stay as far away from this one as you can.

We finally were able to get a reservation on the Wed before T'giving as Jimmy's was booked on previous trips to L'burg. We were seated comfortably in the dining area next to the bar area. The friendly and efficient service was complemented by some friendly visits from the owner to check on how we were doing and what we had ordered, etc. He also played the piano. The music and his sing along really adds to the bistro atmosphere.

My wife had a filet that was cooked to her order and was very good. I had Shrimp and Grits and it was very good. Daughter had Lamb Tenderloin that was excellent. We started with martinis that were served with flakes of ice still floating in the glass. Nice touch there. For dessert we split an order of fried oreos... which should be tried once and forgotten.

While there was a group of ten seated beside us... the evening was best described as... lovely.
