Description: Located in the heart of one of the oldest neighborhoods in the country, Mangia is the cornerstone of historic Rivermont Avenue. The rustic Italian fare, extensive wine list, local artwork and convivial setting inspire a dining experience that is at once luscious and relaxed while allowing a family style feast. People watch on the Café, have an intimate dinner in the candle lit interior or lounge to the mellow live acoustics in the bar. Our chalkboard changes daily with local and organic specials or Italian classics. We invite you in as family; to share the very best we have to offer, on your terms.

“great $8 lunch”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Mangia is a great little restaurant with homemade bread and real food. The duck confit dinner apetisser was ok, but a bit on the 'old', dry and stringy side. The portions for the $8 lunch are generous and delicious. Sitting outside on a sunny day is the best way to go.

Service can be slow but the food is good and the atomsphere is great for anything from a formal dinner to getting drinks with friends.

“Best in Town!”
Reviewed June 25, 2012

This is the best restaurant in the greater Lynchburg area. The roasted eggplant over pasta with fresh mozzarella is my favorite and my husband loves the Bolonese. Specialty recipies and fresh local ingredients make this far better than anything around. They have a great selection of pastas, sandwiches and desserts always happy and friendly service.

“Jekyll and Hyde on the Avenue”
Reviewed June 12, 2012 via mobile

Whoops, split personality here: jolly at lunch but terrifying at dinner.

Lunch is tasty, high-value (complete lunch $8), and really pretty pleasant. Everything bustling and jolly.

But at night, you find yourself in ugly, cavernous rooms with terrible lighting, food that is both overpriced and inedible, and the feeling that you just stepped into some kind of twilight zone.

Time to leave, quickly.

“Best happy hour in town.”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

I actually hesitated to write this review because I'm not sure that I want a lot of people to discover this - it might get too crowded and then I'd have to wait for a table the next time I go!

Oh, well, in the spirit of Trip Advisor I'll share this: please don't miss the happy hour at Mangia, Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 pm. Sit under an umbrella on the avenue-side patio and enjoy really delicious appetizers for just $2 each. You can easily make a meal out of a couple of these appetizers. To get the $2 price you need to buy an alcoholic beverage-darn. Mangia has a great beer selection, wine selection, and I'm pretty sure they offer mixed drinks too. This is a great value! I've been here numerous times to enjoy the ambiance, wonderful value, and tasty food. I will go again and you should too!
