This is the cutest diner and offers great meals for a very affordable price. Open all night and has old fashion milkshakes and malts..

“Good Food But Some Disturbing Things”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

Penny's is right next to and associated with the Oak Tree Inn, so if you're staying there the diner is pretty darn convenient. The diner has a 1950s theme and while small is clean inside. It is open 24x7.

I ate at the diner 2-3 times, getting breakfast and dinner at different times.

The breakfast was good and hearty. I got the big breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes. It was more than I needed to eat but it was all good.

Dinner was a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The burger was thick and well-prepared. The fries were also pretty good.

The service staff was friendly as well.

I would have given a rating of 4 stars for food, service, and appearance, but was disturbed by a couple things.

First, a family (mom, grandma, two kids) were sitting down the way from me. The one child about four years ago had ordered a sandwich with chips but was accidentally served fries. No one noticed at first, and it was a minute or two before the child complained to mom, who then let the wait staff know. The wait staff then brought out chips for the young child -- then took the fries off the child's plate and dumped them back into the fry basket. I have no idea what that child may have done with those fries between the time they were served and when they were taken away. Did she touch them all? Did she sneeze on them? Who knows? But that's why they should have been thrown away, not put back to be served to the next customer (who fortunately was not me; I already had my fries).

Second, there was a cook handling food without protective gloves. I know they had such gloves as another cook was wearing them. In this day and age, all cooks should be wearing them.
