“Everything you could want in a B&B and MUCH more!!”
Reviewed June 2, 2009

We recently enjoyed our third annual trip to Orchard House. We've stayed in several B&Bs in the Charlottesville area and this one tops them all! Richard and Deb are great hosts who obviously love what they do and they do it well. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing, the rooms are romantic, the landscape is well-maintained and affords breath-taking views. Within minutes of several wineries and only 30 minutes from Charlottesville, Orchard House is our favorite destination for a long weekend. Breakfasts have always been amazing and it's an excellent value. We're looking forward to scheduling our next visit SOON!!

My wife and I stayed for only two days, I regret that we didn't stay longer. We stayed as a mini-getaway when I came home on leave from deployment. Deb and Richard are great hosts and have a beautiful, cozy home. This is a fantastic place to stay for a getaway and is close to a lot of wineries / vineyards and a ski resort. Check out the wine tours for an added bonus. Everything about our stay was top-notch and we really enjoyed our time. The food is great, there are probably a lot of reviews that mention the maple egg cups and that attention is well deserved. You've never had anything like it, they are so good. I won't even consider staying in a hotel the next time I'm in the area, I'll be going back to the Orchard House again. Considering the comparable price of a hotel room and the added personalized service and conversation the Orchard House is a must!

This is a great B&B, we would definitely come back. Clean and comfortable room, tasty breakfast, homemade cookies and snacks in the room. Deb and Richard helped us set up our tickets to Monticello, gave us directions and tips on wineries and restaurants. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, pop and water available all the time and a fridge for our own snacks we brought from home. The hot tub was also very nice! We'll be back sometime in the future!

Friend and fellow quilter, loonkpc, has written a great review about our quilt group's stay at Orchard House. I sometimes find it hard to relax when I'm traveling but that was not the case during our weekend. Richard and Deb and the warm, inviting environment they've created at Orchard House had me taking long, healthful, happy breaths and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

I was part of a group of 9 quilting friends who recently spent a weekend here to quilt. Orchard House B&B is a very pretty property (with its own vineyard!) which is situated in a beautiful, rural area of VA (although easily accessible by car). From the moment we pulled into the driveway and Richard and Deb (the innkeepers) came out to greet each of us individually, we knew we had picked a great place! Richard and Deb were warm and welcoming, helpful and accommodating all weekend. Six of us stayed in the Orchard House, and 3 of us stayed in the Apple Blossom farm house on the property (about 100 yds down the driveway from the Orchard House). Each room in both houses was beautifully decorated, had a private bathroom, and was immaculate. Richard and Deb had turned their spacious and well-lit dining room in the Orchard House into the workroom where we each had plenty of work space and good lighting. (Richard is currently working on adding a design wall to that room which should be completed soon.) The foyer had been converted into the "dining room" for the weekend, where Richard and Deb served a delicious country breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings. They also provided dinner on Friday night--our choice of pizza from a local restaurant. Our sewing time while here was unlimited, although we did take time out on Saturday afternoon to visit a quilt shop 1 mile away in the center of Lovingston. The shopkeepers were very friendly, and we were all pleasantly surprised with the variety, quality, and quantity of fabric in the small, newly remodeled shop. After more sewing Saturday afternoon we all headed out to the Lovingston Cafe for a good and inexpensive dinner. We were all sad to leave on Sunday, but because the group had such a great time at Orchard House B&B, we have decided to come back each season for a quiliting retreat. Therefore, we have already reserved 4 more weekends here between April 2009 and February 2010!

Five girlfriends and I stayed at The Orchard House Bed and Breakfast’s “Apple Blossom Farmhouse.” It was WONDERFUL in every way. This was not part of the main house – it was a separate little house with three roomy bedrooms (1 queen, another queen, and 2 twin beds in the rooms), a bathroom for each bedroom, a roomy kitchen stocked with staples and continental breakfast fixings, and a living room with Direct TV. The Farmhouse was very well set up and we could've been on auto-pilot with all the great resources they have - directions, restaurant info and recommendations, suggested winery tours, maps, brochures, etc. The owners have a great little binder put together, full of their personal recommendations and detailed suggested itineraries.

It was like renting a getaway cabin but much nicer, and it was very reasonably priced for how nice it was, with newer furnishings, toiletries in the bathrooms, and the well-stocked kitchen complete with fresh-baked lemon poppyseed bread waiting for us! For our Feb. 27 to March 1 stay (3 nights), each girl paid less than $150 each and we had all the comforts of home. It was also very convenient to many wineries, the Food Lion a mile away, and The Corner Spa, where we had fantastic, wonderful massages customized to whatever we needed.

Richard and Deb Bulissa, the owners, made it very easy and convenient to stay with them. We had tons of privacy but felt very well taken care of; they checked in on us when we arrived, and even made sure we knew their cell phone number when they took a day trip to Charlottesville. We had an 8-to-12-inch snowstorm happen the last night of our stay, and they called us with a plan in case the power went out. And we especially appreciated Richard digging out our cars and a path for us to check out as planned Monday morning!

The six of us spent most of our time in the house chatting, catching up, cooking big dinners, and relaxing. It was a wonderful retreat, but with lots of options for activities in the area. We went to Devil's Backbone Brewing Company for great food and a happening (if somewhat loud) atmosphere, complete with live music later on. Also, on Sunday afternoon we visited 4 wineries and found it was AWESOME going on a winter Sunday because there was hardly anyone else out touring, and we got great personal attention from the winery staffs.

We were very grateful for such a lovely place to feel so comfortable and relaxed for our long girlie getaway wine weekend. It's very likely we'll be back soon, and I told my husband I'd love to go again with him and stay in the main house, perhaps in the fall. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend staying either at the “main house” B&B or the Apple Blossom Farmhouse.

This Orchard House was fantastic. Although I admit I don't frequent bed and breakfasts often, I can say without hesitation this is the best one I have stayed in. The hosts were fantastic--the perfect combination of accomodating but not "in your face." They really made us feel at home. The breakfasts are superb and the other amenities (like the fresh baked cookies) really make the place. The rooms are clean and new, and are tastefully decorated--they have a rustic feel but are by no means "schlocky." The hosts are quite knowledgeable of the area and the location is ideal for hitting all of the local attractions--wineries, breweries, ski slopes, and Monticello.
