Visiting Lexington last week for a horse show, 502 South Main was recommended by a friend familiar with the area. Are we ever glad we listened!
From the minute we walked in, we felt relaxed and at home. Russ and Mary are very knowledgeable and proud of their town, providing helpful tips on where to eat, places to visit, etc. We loved The Southern Inn for dinner!
Our room had all the comforts of home, even a little fridge with cold drinks. Super comfy beds!
Breakfast the next morning was amazing - cut-up pineapple, yogurt, a spinach and egg dish, tomatoes, blueberry scones and my new favorite tea - Irish Breakfast!
Can't wait to stay here on our next trip to Lexington!

My son and I took A motorcycle trip through Shenandoah and down the Blue Ridge Parkway. We decided to visit Lexington and stay the night. We made the perfect choice in selecting our first B&B stay! Mary was wonderful! She treated us like we were family or long time friends. The house was spotless and charming. The beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing! Fresh and delicious. I would drive 6 hours back there just for the blueberry scones! :-) I could not recommend a place more than 502 South Main. I would not even consider staying anywhere else in Lexington.
Thank you for a very enjoyable visit!

My husband and I spent the weekend in Lexington and our home base was the 502 South Main B&B. We could not have asked for more beautiful (and comfortable!) accomodations nor more gracious hosts. This *was* true Southern hospitality! Mary Stuart and Russ are both very nice and they understand the value of being available as needed (with great local food/ attraction recommendations) yet allowing you to enjoy the home on your own. They provided great breakfasts, fresh flowers in the room, and mints on the pillows at night. We could use the front porch & swing as well as side patio and there was a library/den for chatting, playing games/cards, etc. That said, the B&B has three guest rooms, so while it is big, it is quiet, which I loved.

As part of our Living Social deal, Mary Stuart also packed us scrumptious picnic lunches to bring with us to the Natural Bridge and we had snacks and wine upon our arrival. 502 South Main provided us a wonderful get-away weekend and we would happily stay there again. Thanks, Mary Stuart & Russ!

Room Tip: We stayed in the West room, but judging from the website photos, all of the rooms are nice.

This was my first bed and breakfast and my first visit to Lexington, VA. Due to my boyfriend and my schedule, we had a difficult time coming up with a couple days to get away. However, during the booking process, Mary Stuart was very accommodating, attentive and prompt when responding to emails. We arrived Sunday evening and stayed for 2 days. Upon arrival, Mary stuart greeted us outside, welcomed us to the house, and even helped us to carry our bags to our room.

The house is very homey and charming. The dining room and living room/den are located on the first floor. The iving room/den had a piano, book shelf, board games, and little bowls of candy. The bedrooms are located on the top floor. My boyfriend and I stayed in the South room -- the biggest of the 3 rooms. Mary Stuart did a superb job in decorating the place -- felt like home away from home. The South room had a king size COMFORTABLE bed, a desk, and a small sitting area with a TV/DVD player. There was a was a fridge, kureg coffee machine, small little snacks (apple, banana, nuts, and granola bars), Drinks (diet/coke/sprite/water), and little pieces of chocolate on our pillows. The setup and presentation was definitely pleasing and cute. However, my only criticism about the setup of the room is that we were unable to see the TV from bed because the sitting area with TV is on one side of the room. The bathroom was roomy and very, very clean -- soaps, shampoos, conditioners, towels, face pads, cotton balls, disposable cups, hairdryer, shower caps were all provided. I liked how the bathroom had a shower and separate bathtub -- great for bubble baths!

The breakfasts were all prepared by Mary Stuart and were absolutely delicious. Our first breakfast, we were served mouth-watering fluffy french toasts with savory pecan/brown sugar toppings and bacon. The second morning, Mary stuart made delicious ham/egg/cheese quiche with toast. Succulent fresh fruit, granola, cereal, yogurt, coffee, OJ, cranberry juice, V8, and milk were offered both mornings.

My boyfriend and I had the living social deal which came with a bottle of wine and picnic lunch. Mary stuart gave us the choice of red or white wine from the local vineyard. For lunch, Mary stuart prepared ham/cheese wraps with grapes, gold fish, homemade oatmeal cookies, and 2 lemonades.

The house is located near the woods creek trail, which is about 2 miles long but traverses through Washington and Lee and VMI campuses to the murray river. My boyfriend and I decided to have our romantic picnic there; however, there are many places closer to the house/quiet town to have a quiet and romantic picnic. The place is very close to the little unique town that has cute antique shops, mom and pop shops, cute gourmet restaurants, and ice cream parlors. Mostly everything in town closes around 9pm and some places are closed certain days (mostly Monday) or do not open until 5pm.

This B&B is definitely all about the little things. Mary Stuart made sure we did have any food allergies upon arrival, provided us with maps of the town and gave us advice on how to spend our limited time in town, supplied us with umbrellas for the picnic (just in case it rained but she had already looked up the weather), had bug spray readily available before we headed out on the trail/picnic, offered ice to us before heading to bed, turned down our beds and exchanged out the dirty glasses when we were out and about, and covered the clean glasses with saran wrap. Mary Stuart was an amazing hostess (we briefly met Russ during our first breakfast). Mary Stuart's attention to detail is noticeable and applauded. It was a great weekend away, and we'll definitely head back again.

Room Tip: South room -- it's larger and away from the 2 other rooms.

My husband & I stayed one night at this superb B&B while traveling to Pennsylvania from Georgia. (Wish we could have stayed longer.) The owners/hosts Mary Stuart and Russ were so amazing and helpful. The B&B is equal or surpassing the quality of Select Registry B&B's. Every detail was thought of. Our room the North Room was perfect. I was worried because it had two twin beds made into a king bed. The bedding was wonderful and you couldn't tell at all it was two twin beds. We will definitely pick this lovely room again. The bathroom was modern and up to date. The B&B was spotless and the breakfast was delicious and memorable. Both Mary Stuart & Russ made this a place we will definitely return to. Lexington is a special small town which we will definitely have to spend more time exploring. The location of this B&B is within easy walking distance to the great restaurants & shops of downtown.

Room Tip: There are only three rooms and all are great.

This was our first visit to Lexington, VA--and it won't be our last ! What a great, historical town ! One of the highlights was our stay at 502 South Main. The B & B was in wonderful condition--beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Mary Stuart and Russ couldn't have been nicer--great hosts ! The snacks and tea on the front porch were very nice, and Mary Stuart outdid herself at breakfast--it was fabulous !!! The room was spacious and very comfortable--great bath and shower ! All in all, it was a wonderful experience and one we look forward to revisiting very soon. Thanks for a great time in beautiful Lexington !!!

This B&B is absolutely fabulous! The décor is up to date and luxurious. The location is conveniently located walking distance from downtown Lexington. The owners and hosts, and when I say hosts that means every proper contention of the word, are amazing. The breakfast was fantastic and the conversation with Mary Stuart and Russ was better! We had eggs benedict, a tomato and avocado with high quality balsamic accompaniment, and a starter of homemade granola and (mostly likely organic by the quality) fruit. I thought about it the e-n-t-I-r-e drive back to Alexandria, VA.

We stayed in the South room which is spacious and comfortable at the same time. The canopy bed is so very comfortable and in keeping with the home's luxurious décor.

The only item of note I would say regarding this review is; it is with selfishness that I say, don't go... that way there is always a room for me! No seriously, GO, you wont regret it! The hosts are the best that can be offered. The breakfast are DC-worthy 5 star rated. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bathrooms are up to date with marble surrounds.

Signed,
Lisa M. and Michael M. (and the unintended guests of Reganne and Ava M.)
