Lee Chapel and Museum

They have a Museum that you can visit. It has a lot of neat items and pictures to see. If you a fan of American history, this is a must visit. They have a small gift shop and the staff was extremely knowledgeable. VMI is there and Stonewall Jackson’s grave is in Lexington as well. Not far off the interstate, a nice place to see and pay respects.

We stopped at the visitor center and they recommended a stop here. It is beautiful and the sculpture is amazing in the detail in the stone. We are glad we stopped!

This is a lovely setting for the tomb of an amazing American hero. The Valentine sculpture of Lee in repose is beautiful as is the famous portraits of Washington and Lee. The museum below the chapel offers an historical remembrance of the college as well as the legacy left by Lee. The general's family are also interred here as is Traveller just outside the door.

Having just visited Gettysburg and Antietem, and learned about Lee's military campaign, it was nice to close out the visit with this stop. It's small, but cute and they request a donation (which we gave) but didn't require it.

Professionally managed and interpreted with respect and informality, Lee Chapel is a must-see while in Lexington. The museum is the weakest part of the experience, while the talk in the chapel and at the recumbent Lee statue is wonderful and the visit to the Lee crypt and his Washington College office quite enlightening.
