“Worth the stop”

Lee Chapel and Museum
Ranked #2 of 27 things to do in Lexington

A stroll through the beautiful campus of Washington and Lee College will take you to the Lee Chapel and Museum. A knowledgeable docent and interesting artifacts made the visit worthwhile. Stop in, even if you just have a few minutes.

The Washington and Lee campus right next to Virginia military institute were so close together and interesting. Wish we had more time! This "chapel" and museum were one of our only brief stops in the area. The guides/staff were very knowledgable. Worth the trip and time spent. Even inspired my teenage son to buy a Robert E. Lee biography.

Lee chapel is a def stop in anyone's travels. The amount of history here is amazing. U learn the family tree , the relationship to George Washington's family, the incredible portrait of GW in the chapel and on and on. The chapel is located in the middle of Washington and Lee University and is used in many of their functions. A gorgeous campus in its own right.

This beautiful chapel sits at Washington Lee University. Behind the altar is "Lee in Repose" in stone.
Downstairs is the family crypt where he is buried with his family, including Light Horse Harry Lee.
Also his office, just as he left it the day he had his fatal stroke. Nice little museum, and outside, Lee's horse Traveler is buried.
Nice, nice tribute to a great leader and educator.
No admission, just requested donations-very much worth it!
