This very good winery is well located right off of Rt 29 between Culpeper and Madison. Prices are reasonable and service very reasonable--and the pourers know their wines--we even found the Chardonny delightful--

My wife and I were once very high on Prince Michel, particularly their reds, to the point of joining their wine club. That affection is sadly gone, doomed by their wines' decline into mediocrity. And yes, we dropped the wine club.

Our most recent, and last, visit underscored our decision to cross Prince Michel off of our list. The wines were unimpressive, and despite the fact that they were not at all busy, we felt like our presence was a major imposition on the staff. The tasting fee allows for tastes of ten wines, but there was little to no information provided about any of them. Pour a taste, then walk away until we were ready for the next pour. Really? Pardon me for thinking you were actually interested in selling wine.

Simply put, there are too many other wineries in the area with better wines who really want your business; spare yourself and bypass this one.

I paid $10 for the bus ride and wine tasting at two Vineyards. I think this was the better one of the two for a couple of reasons. First when we arrived they had appitizers out for our group which we snacked on then went on a tour of the winery. Next when we did the tasting they took us to a nice tasting room where we were all able to set down as they explained the wine no long term standing. All of the wine was good, the Iced wine was great really sweet. I took a bottle home and treated all to the Ice Wine over vanilla ice cream which was great.

When driving from DC south, stopping in at Prince Michel's is a must. They have a nice tour (self-directed) , gift shop and of course the wine tasting. Try 3 for free, or for $5 the whole selection. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Price Michel's has acquired Rapidan River, so try those too, if you have a palette for the sweeter side of wines. A must in that case is their ice wine Tres Bien. No food, but you can go outside and sip a glass and enjoy the countryside. Have heard they are now doing Brunch on Sundays.

ugh, large ungainly and non personal. poor wines, gabby staff, no quality. nothing to speak of winery and the winemaker, just a mass commercial vehicle best suited for busloads of wine ignorant souls.
