Well worth a visit if you are new to the area. The museum is quite good for a small church. Lots of interesting history.

“wonderful memories .........”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

I grew up near here and visited often. for a while my grandfather was the groundskeeper. we went to many special services and events when I was growing up. it's a beautiful place and full of history. it's a shame that the church is not as important to us now as it was to our forefathers. maybe it should be.

“Historic church”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Absolutely fascinating place to learn about VA history and a man's vision to build a church as a way to say "thank you" for all he had been given.

“Felt like going back in time.”

The docents are extremely nice and give a great history of the Church. Be sure to view the little movie at the beginning of the tour.

“Interesting piece of Virginia history”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

This old colonial church is worth a visit. It was built around 1720 (can't remember the exact date) by the Carter family (King Carter). There are docents there who really know their facts and we learned a lot; for instance, churches used to have large tracts of land, called glebes, that provided them with a good living. Also, curiously there is almost no altar at the church, but the pulpit served as the focal point for the entire service. So much more...highly recommend taking the tour and visiting the church.
