We had arrived in the Algarve on New Years Eve and after a week at our first hotel - we arrived at the Baia Grande the second week in January. We were greated by very pleasant and helpful reception staff and were pleased with the room we had been allocated. I had sent an e-mail requesting a sea view room and we had been given a large corner room with a lovely view of the pool and sea. The room was large, bright and very clean and well equipped including a flat screen TV. The only improvement would have been tea and coffee making facilities - these could be purchased at the bar however.

The hotel is in a very residential area, so was quiet at this time of year, we did however have a car so drove into Albufeira and Gale. There was also a shuttle service to the local beach and into Albufeira which the hotel provided free of charge. There is a lovely beach which we walked to called rabbit beach and also some lovely cliff top walks in the area so plenty to do.

The hotel was very quiet and relaxing due to it being January, but there was still entertainment in the piano bar 3 times during the week. The food in the restaurant was very enjoyable - something to suit most tastes and the staff and service was excellent. There is a reading room / sun deck on the top floor of the hotel which was most welcome as the weather was not always warm enough to enjoy the pool area.

A very relaxing and well run hotel and one which we would definitely return to in the future.

Room Tip: Up grade to a sea view room - much sunnier and pleasant

This was the second time we have stayed at The Baia Grande though the first time must have been more or less when first opened.
As Christmas and New Year was very busy for us in the U.K. it was great to be looked after by happy smilling people. We enjoyed 2 weeks of pure relaxation. January is always quiet on the Algarve but we enjoy the beautiful beaches and hiring a car to travel up and down the coast.
You should find the Portuguese people welcoming, delightful to meet as in the Hotel.
We enjoyed lovely sea views in a quiet room and liked the fact there was British T.V. when relaxing after a day out. Only suggestion would be bedroom needed updating otherwise very happy and would stay again at The Baia Grande. Thank you very much for the Birthday Cake which was a very big surprise and thoroughly enjoyed.

Room Tip: Higher rooms quieter and take a travel kettle.

Its surprisingly difficult to write this review, bearing in mind just how good our hotel stay was.
From top to bottom every aspect of our hotel experience, was just brilliant !
After a long days travelling, we arrived a little dishevelled and tired, the staff right from the outset were friendly polite and efficient.
Our room was clean and very comfortable, serviced daily, with those little added touches, that do make the difference, such as your nightwear neatly laid out on the bed, on your return.
Eating at the Baia Grande, although we eat out on numerous occasions, was our prefered option, because the food was just so good.
Praise has to go to some very able staff, in both the kitchens and bar and the serving staff especially.
During our weeks vacation, we were entertained on three evenings in The Piano Bar, by quality local entertainers.
Not being overly interested in drinking, I only sampled a few of the freshly made cocktails on offer at the bar, lovely, they were indeed!
I personally found the hotels position just right for my needs, 10 minutes walk from beautiful Rabbit beach and 5 minutes via taxi to Albufeira town.
The areas surroundings our hotel 99 % residential in nature, so quiet and peaceful. But within easy walk of a few local amenities.
To be quite honest with you, The Baia Grande is a very very good well run hotel, perfect for a relaxing holiday.
We will be returning in the future, most definitely!

Stopped at the Biai Grande for 4 night from November 24th 2013. This is our 2nd stay at this lovely hotel. When we first arrived we asked for a room change to improve our enjoyment of the sun. The staff couldn’t have been more obliging as there was nothing wrong with the first room offered which also had beautiful sea views. The 27th was my birthday and when we returned from breakfast the room maid left a lovely sculpture in the shape of a heart with our bath towels. She also greeted me with a lovely ‘happy birthday’. At breakfast and evening meal the lady who shows you to the table always had a warm welcoming smile and worked extremely hard through all the sittings. This year I also enjoyed the inside pool which is delightful and this really enhanced my stay (you must by Portuguese law wear a swimming cap, so remember to pack one, or buy one from reception). We hired a car so didn’t use the transport into town, but hiring a car is cheap in Portugal if you do a bit of research. 50 euro’s we paid with full insurance for a small car. Lovely walks close to the hotel along the cliff coast line and a cracking beach not 10minutes walk.

WE booked this hotel even though we do have a home on the Algarve we decided to push the boat out for new year. The hotel is very nice and the staff very helpfull, the food on the night was good and we had no complaints. If you do stay at this hotel there is not much round it but they do put a bus on to get you into town and the beach but a taxi shouldnt be much.

Room Tip: we asked for a sea view and got on which over looked the pool

This is the 3rd time that we have visited the Baia Grande and I have to confess that we are in love with this hotel! There is something about its beautiful outside pool area with hammocks, the rather grand Thai style entrance and the big extensive bar area that always draw us back! Other excellent features are a nice big bedroom, a lovely breakfast with lots of choice, very helpful staff and a free shuttle to Albufeira. There are some features on this visit which we did not like though: the bar food tasted ok, but not great, we had to pay to use the safe in the room and we really wanted a double bed, not the twin beds which we were given. Also, one of the features which we love about this area is the option to visit some good restaurants nearby, but going in December meant they were all shut which really limited our options. The local area is beautiful though with some stunning beaches nearby and in the gorgeous December sunshine we could still enjoy them. The Algarve generally seems to be struggling at the moment with visitor numbers down, so it is encouraging to see this hotel is still as lovely as ever, but please Bai Grande keep your standards high: drop the charges on the room safe, improve the quality of the bar food and keep the hotel to its overall excellent standard. We look forward to visiting you again soon!

Room Tip: go for a sea view room

Returned to this excellent hotel after a 5 year break. This time we were half board and it was a good decision as most of the bars are closed in late nov. food was very good especially salads and soups. Free transport to old town, marina and gale beach are a great advantage. Reception staff helpful when I lost my wallet.
