“Tastings were great!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

Our wine tasting visit was a great experience. Staff member Jake was great to talk to and very knowledgeable. After the tastings we ended up purchasing three wines which we liked and an additional two glasses and a cheese plate to enjoy on the front porch! A must visit if you are in the area.

“Some good wines, but tour was lacking”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013 via mobile

Rappahannock has some interesting wines, mostly whites and "lighter" reds (rose, Cabernet), with two dessert wines, one chocolatey and the other fruity. The tasting was a reasonable $8.

The winery fell short in presentation. While individual tastings can be done at the nice wine counter, our group had to stand around a table in the frigid cellar tasting the wines. The winemaker was knowledgeable, but rambled on endlessly about highly technical aspects of winemaking that had little meaning to our group. We hoped for a basic tour of the facility, but were instead stuck in the cold interior listening to uninteresting and unimportant details.

The winery itself is fine, but has little character - the usual wood-panel and floor winery style. Even the winery logo is an unmemorable capital "R". There's a nice deck to taste wine and look at the vineyard, and limited interior seating. There is some food available - a cheese plate and a baguette with a selection of olive oils. We had the baguette/oils. The oils were a variety of flavors, but the baguette is tiny, and it's not much food for $10. The cheese plate is even more expensive. Wine bottles range from $18-$30, which seemed reasonable. The staff was friendly as well. It's a pleasant experience and the wine tasting is a good value, but there's just nothing particularly memorable about it, and the tour experience could have been better.

“A great family-owned and family-friendly winery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013

We have been members of the wine club for many years and love their wines. Reds and whites are always at least above average and frequently excellent. We prefer to pick up our monthly wine club selections because the ambiance at the winery is so great. It is located in the country near the Shenandoah National Forest but is an easy 45-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Northern Virginia. Once there, the staff, which are largely members of the family that owns the winery, are very helpful and knowledgeable. They serve cheese and bread platters for those who prefer to relax while enjoying a bottle of wine and snacks. On busy weekends they often have a local barbecue company set up in the renovated onsite barn (which is available to rent for large groups). All-in-all, our favorite Virginia winery.

“Nice folks, and ok wine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

The wine is ok, especially compared to California wines which is what we are used to. The people are very nice and friends, and we had a great time enjoying the views from the patio while drinking.

“Nice winery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

A group of 5 of us came here at the end of March 2013. Wine tastings were reasonably priced and they officer a military discount for servicemembers. The wine staff is knowledgeable and the gentleman who did our wine tasting was pretty clearly an avid beer drinker as he drew parallels between the process for making wine to that of beer without fail. Picnic tables outside are a good size for groups and there are several of them. The most memorable wine I had was the Meritage, but there were several other respectable wines. They also have an olive oil station where you can buy a variety of infused olive oils (pepper and garlic were my personal favorites). Restrooms are clean.
