We stayed at this location because of an open water swim event and although they offered a special discount rate, the price is very expensive (about $150 for a studio apartment is the most economical with one br, 2br and 3 br offered). However, there are not many affordable choices close by (rentals by owners). For that price, most hotels offer a hot breakfast, not just continental. We were very disappointed with how long dinner took (over an hour and half to be served after ordering). Because of the location, there are not any highly rated or recommended restaurants in the local vicinity to choose to go. You would think that the restaurant would be prepared to handle any additional people staying at the place, since many booked in advance. If we had a choice, we would go somewhere else. First time stay and very disappointing.

We had our wedding there last year and stayed there for our one year anniversary during the balloon festival. Wonderful place to stay. Fantastic views from lakeside rooms. Bar and resturant and fun and friendly. Great room and service.

Room Tip: The higher the better, nicer view

We came here specifically to see the Hot Air Balloon Classic that they advertised on their website. We were looking for a place to stay for a couple of days on our way home from a trip to Michigan. The whole Hot Air Balloon Classic was very poorly organized. The staff was not informed of what was going on at all. It was advertised that the whole thing would be at the resort...again, the reason we stopped there. The morning the balloons were to go off, they were nowhere on the resort to be found. After going to the front desk a couple times we were led on a wild goose chase trying to find them. We finally came back to the hotel to have breakfast. The man at the front desk told us that he had just gotten an e-mail of the exact place they were having it, but after over an hour of running around we told him we were no longer interested. We got onto the elevator to go to the basement to go to the restaurant and were talking to another couple about the Hot Air Balloon situation. The front desk man, ran down the stairs, met us at the elevator and started to tell us again where it was and again we told him we'd spent over an hour running around and no longer wanted to go as we knew by the time we got there the balloons would already have taken off. He followed us into the restaurant to make sure we did not talk to any other people about our bad experiencce, once seated he left us alone. This was totally unprofessional!!! Now, for the condo room, we stayed in a studio apartment. When we arrived it was musty and hot in our room. The air conditioner was near the ceiling and there was no way to adjust the controls unless you climbed onto the dresser to adjust. Which we did, but it did not adequately cool the room. Each time we left and returned we could smell the musty smell and it was not cool unless you were right in front of the unit. Something about the sheets made my husband very itchy. Fortunately, they had a buy one night, get one free, otherwise we would have been very angry to spend so much on this room. Now the good, the restaurant was very good. We arrived late and we called them and even though they were closed, they made us up salads which were very good and we very much appreciated. We ate dinner there the next evening and again, it was very good. It is a beautiful place, but not much to do if not summer and hot.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a Lakeside Room, as we did not and were disappointed we had not.

We spent the weekend at this resort for a family wedding. We stayed in a two bed condo overlooking the lake, a couple of minutes by car or a short walk from the main hotel buildings. These condos are privately owned and rented out by the hotel when the owners are not using them. Our condo was large, with two ensuite bedrooms, open plan kitchen, dining area and sitting area. It also had two outside dining areas, one enclosed. The kitchen was fully equipped for self catering and there was a laundry off it. There is dedicated parking right outside.

Sadly for the wedding party,in April the weather was not that good, quite chilly and rainy. This place would be much more enoyable in the summer months, when it would be possible to use the outdoor facilities, which are what this resort is all about. As it is primarily a summer resort, it was very quiet when we visited. The restaurant/bar was closed when we arrived for a late lunch and we had to drive off the resort to get food. The reception was unattended in the evenings. There is a small 'trading post' a short drive from the resort where you can stock up on essentials, buy souvenirs and get fast food to eat in or takeaway.

The inclusive breakfast buffet was adequate, fruit, bagels, preserves, cereals, hot drinks and juice. It was also possible to order cooked breakfast from the menu. This was good value and not over priced.

Mariner's Landing condos: our queen size bed was actually a full size; the mattress was hard and lumpy; the foam pillows were also hard and lumpy. The furniture consisted of a worn out sleeper sofa with torn fabric, four hard metal chairs, two hard rattan chairs - nothing was comfortable. The restaurant meal was good one night and dreadful the next night when they served a rotten (truly) baked potato, overcooked mushy vegetables, and unwrap and reheat crab cakes. Activities: nothing to do except golf (separate charge) or the pool unless you paid to rent a kayak, skidoo, or boat. The nearest site for kid friendly activities & ice cream was 20 miles away. They charged a daily rate to use the exercise equipment and their on-site computer. They charged for phone hook-up internet. The wi-fi internet connection was available in two spots - the basement hallway or the basement restaurant and neither one maintained the connection - open link and not secure. We could not check out at the registration desk because the link for processing our credit card was not working. No wonder the place was nearly empty. The Mariners Landing advertising does not reflect our experience. We left early.

Room Tip: take you own pillow and mattress

We stayed at Mariner's Landing while visiting nearby family during the first week in January. My son and daughter-in-law joined us for a couple of nights, and the grandchildren stayed over one night. Having 2 bedrooms with a pull out couch allowed us to do that. We were delighted to find we had daily room service; something that is once midweek at best in most timeshares. Our living room overlooked the lake, with the mountains in the background. There was a glassed in balcony that let us maximize that on the days where it was a little warmer. Breakfast was brought in every day, which was a nice surprise. There was a gas fireplace that made the living room cozy for the evenings. We aren't boaters or golfers, but if you were enthusiasts in either area, you'd have your wishes granted with both on site.

It was definitely the off season, and the other guests were few and far between, but we were still treated very well and would return again when visiting the area.
