“Lovely hotel with over-priced golf”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

The Homestead is a lovely hotel in a beautiful location, but don't play golf. The courses are nice, but not worth the price. You'll find better fairways & greens at your home country club. The restaurants at the hotel are good, but sometimes not open. We had to eat at the same restaurant twice in one day. All the rooms are very spacious and well-appointed. Small bathrooms. Most of staff very nice. Avoid the 2 women in the pro shop for the Old Course.

Found a Living Social deal. My wife and I enjoyed a two night stay. Beautiful grounds. ALL staff very friendly. Really enjoyed dinner at the Main Dining Room. Only negative was we had pre-booked a canoe. Told upon arrival, it was cancelled. Activity desk was accomodating though.

Just stayed the weekend here with my fiancee. We were looking to take a reprieve from all the goings-on of the workweek and family life. While the 4-hour drive from where we live in Maryland seemed daunting, it was certainly well worth it. Gorgeous location, exceptional facilities...we experienced just the relaxing weekend we desired. Nestled in the Allegheny mountains, the views and atmosphere were ones of tranquility. While we were not able to book a couples massage - "treasure the moment" - due to the spa being booked, we certainly enjoyed the relaxing outdoor jacuzzi in the spa garden. There's no shortage of other activities either, for the more active couples. The scenery and foliage on the trails was calming and immensely enjoyable. Though the resort can be a little pricey for the average traveler, redeeming my free nights rewards from Omni certainly came in handy. Would definitely go back and book ahead at the spa.

We had a wonderful time and it was the perfect time of year with the leaves changing and great weather. The room was great, the food was outstanding and the amenities were top notch and reasonably priced. The golf course was in amazing condition. We will definitely go back. It is both a family friendly and couples great getaway.

Hotel is beautiful but could use some TLC to fix an aging building. The 'Tast of the Region' on the lawn was a great unique experience and we had a lovely time. I personally was not a fan of having to pay an additional $22 for internet service in the hotel - this should be included with all of the other fees applied - this seems like a very dated policy and is not convient.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013 via mobile

We went as a family for a long weekend. There were 13 of us and although the location is beautiful the staff is not very well trained and the service was spotty. We utilized the golf, tennis, horseback riding, spa, and pools and ate at Sam Sneads, the main dining room and the canyon ranch restaurant. The concierge gave us misinformation several times and it was very disappointing that there was not any type of service at the pool even after we were told we could have lunch there. Once we were all settled at the pool and went to ask about lunch we were told we had to get take out from the canyon ranch restaurant but we needed to walk over there get menus, get everyone's orders, walk back order, walk back 45 minutes later and pick up our lunches. It just seemed incredible that a resort like this would have very limited access to food and drink and no one available to serve you. We had three spa services. My daughter said the woman talked during her entire treatment and explained all about her thyroid problems. It was very hard to relax. I have been to the canyon ranch in Arizona and Las Vegas and the service here was not the high quality I have experienced at the other locations. The lady who gave the heavenly treatment did not explain anything about what she was doing and was cleaning the shower in the same room while I was submerged in the relaxation cocoon and it just was not relaxing. It was not a good value for the money and disappointing. The laundry service was excellent. My son needed some pants dry cleaned quickly and they picked up at 1 am and returned by noon the next day. The housekeeping staff was fast and the dining room staff and service was excellent. The food was good not great and the lack of food access/spots was disappointing. We will give the homestead another chance because it has such great potential to be a first class holiday spot. Hopefully, they will improve.

Thank you for choosing The Homestead to spend a long week-end with family. We appreciate you pointing out the pros and cons of your stay. We sincerely apologize for the unacceptable incident at the Spa that is certainly not typical. While our hours become more limited in the off season, we should have communicated that service was available at the pool via in-room dining delivery. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention so that we may take corrective actions and make improvements. It is good to know you will give us another chance as we would welcome the opportunity to regain your goodwill and confidence and show you a truly great Homestead experience.

Although the room was nice and the services offered were excellent, the stay was ruined by no sleep. The room was hot and stuffy to the point of interfering with sleep. The hallway was cooler than the room, and other floors were much cooler than ours.
