Typical Westin business hotel. Not a lot of frills like a spa and I think after stating here several times all the rooms are generally the same. Parking can be a pain so give yourself a few extra minutes to get to/from the car. Shuttle to airport is flexible to your schedule too.

OVERVIEW OF BRAND
Westin was founded in the 1930s (under a different name) in the northwestern part of the U.S., and is now one of the nicer brands within the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) family of hotels. Most Westins try to “elevate all your senses” including your sight (through it’s “Zen-like” decor), sound (e.g., in-room entertainment and lounge music), and scent (through it’s signature Heavenly Products). Westin Hotels used to host Unwind—“a Westin Evening Ritual”—intended to create a social community for hotel guests. This usually included free appetizers, desserts, and drinks depending on the hotel and location. When the economy tanked a few years ago, however, so did Unwind. The only Westins I’ve recently been to that still hold a worthwhile Unwind are in Las Vegas and Los Cabos. Nevertheless, the in-room amenities (e.g., the Heavenly Shower and the Heavenly Bed) are usually the highlight of the stay.

WESTIN–IAD
The Westin near Dulles Airport opened at the end of 2009, and I have stayed here over 10 times. It is located about 1.5 miles from the airport, and there is a shuttle that picks up from the airport every 30 minutes. To find the shuttle, exit the baggage claim area and walk to area 2H.

NOTE: Although the airport signs suggest that Hotel Shuttles also pick-up at 2A, the Westin Shuttle (for whatever bizarre reason) does not…though some of their compassionate drivers will stop if they see you waving at them…but, don’t bet on it.

I have heard from some other guest that taxi cab drivers tend to have a hard time finding this Westin, as it is not easily accessible from the highway (though you can see it from the Highway 28/Sully Rd).

THE ROOM
This is a comfortable Westin room. You should find a flat-screen TV, a coffee maker, a fridge (it’s empty unless you request that they stock it), an iron, and an ironing board. Internet runs about $10 (unless you are a Platinum Preferred guest). You will find the signature Westin dual-showerhead and Heavenly Products in the bathroom.

FOOD
Room service consists of most of what you can find in Padella, the hotel’s restaurant and bar lounge. There is a happy hour in the Lobby Bar from 5:00–7:00PM with half off appetizers and reduced prices on house wines and draft beers. The staff in the Lobby Bar is very friendly, but the service can vary: Sit at the bar for fastest service; otherwise, you may be overlooked (for a long time) if you sit at a table along the bar’s perimeter.

GYM AND POOL
The gym is well stocked with the typical Westin Workout equipment: There are two basic benches, a rack of dumbbells ranging up to 50 lbs., and numerous cable machines. The cardio equipment is in very good shape, consisting of treadmills, bikes, and elliptical machines. There is an indoor pool across the hallway from the gym; however, the pool has limited hours and depends on when there is a lifeguard on duty.

SPG SPECIFIC
There is no club lounge and only 6 suites. Platinum Members should get a breakfast voucher for their buffet (which is very good), free Internet, and 500 bonus Starpoints.

OVERALL RATING
I like this Westin: It still feels fairly new, it’s comfortable, and the gym is great. It is a bit secluded without much activity around the hotel, and it can be hard to get to (though easy to see from the highway). But, it’s a comfortable Westin with a great breakfast buffet. Thus far, I prefer this hotel in the area when I’m flying in/out of Dulles.

Room Tip: Ask to get a room facing the "Time Warner Building." Otherwise, you may be facing the parking garage.

I stayed at Westin in March. They have shuttle service every 30 min. from the Dulles airport. It's helpful to go to the hotel with heavy suitcase. They have two more shuttle services, though it couldn't fit my schedule. The room had enough space and was comfortable. Yet, there was no bathtub in the bathroom. I was a little disappointed. Besides, their housekeeping service was not good. When I called them to bring something to my room for several times, though they finally didn't come. I guess they didn't have enough staff.

This is a new modern hotel which provides outstanding levels of comfort and cleanliness. They offer a free shuttle service to the airport and whilst it's a bit of a drive it's a very welcoming place to arrive at.

I agree with the previous reviewer - the hotel is spotless. It really is. It offers some of the best standards of housekeeping I've experienced in a hotel and clearly the staff take great pride in their property.

The only negatives we encountered were on the service front. Just one person (the duty manager I think) on reception. Very slow check in as a result.

The bar is nice and the service friendly. Breakfast however the next morning was a different story. Nobody to greet us. We simply walked in and sat down. A waiter appeared and offered us coffee which promptly arrived and that was the last we saw of him. There was a reasonable breakfast buffet selection although much of the hot offering was only lukewarm. Unfortunately the chefs seemed more interested in laughing and shouting in the kitchen than replenishing it.

In summary a good hotel but you do feel that with better service it could be so much more.

Room Tip: All the rooms here are of a very good standard.

We had an early morning flight out of Dulles and stayed one night. The room had two Queen Beds that were very comfortable. There was a double shower head that produced a great shower. It was absolutely spotless. A little on the expensive side at $244 per night. The free shuttle picks you up and takes you back. It runs on the half hour. They even had boxed breakfasts for $10. I would stay here again. The Metro is coming to nearby Reston in 2013 and to Dulles in 2015. That will make this airport and hotel even more convenient.
