“Typical country inn and suites with some issues”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2011

To echo what others have said, definitely avoid rooms on the first floor. There's a strong musty smell on the first floor masked somewhat by cleaning chemicals. Also, rooms that face the highway can get a little noisy from trucks and other noisy "sports" cars.

My room was on the third floor where I couldn't detect any musty smells. The room was fairly spacious and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was also decent with make-your-own waffles, and scrambled eggs in addition to the usual breads, cereals, and oatmeal.

Room Tip: Avoid first floor. Get a room facing the back (facing the Hampton Inn)

Good location close to the interstate but no noise from the highway. The rooms are basic with microwave/refrig and comfortable beds. Nothing fancy but they were clean and quite. The breakfast was good in the morning I would consider it a good value.

We stayed here last year when visiting Bridgewater College during orientation. They were kind enough to refund our nonrefundable reservation when my daughter came down with mono and we had to reschedule. They have a decent breakfast with cereals, hot and cold, make your own waffles, danishes, breads, ham , eggs, cheese, yogurt, etc. The beds were comfortable and the rooms clean. The staff was helpful and friendly.

Now for the bad, we stayed here again Sept. 2 and the hotel smelled again of mold, cleaning products, air freshener, and chlorine from the indoor pool. It was very musty , moldy, and smelly in the lobby , whole first floor, and breakfast room. They need to pull out the carpet in the downstairs, and check for mold. I lost 88 lbs due to mold in my air conditioner and became very ill. I would think the staff and people who stay here any length of time would become ill. Please take note , hotel management ,and fix the problem. It is a real turn off when you first walk in to sign in and also a health hazard. We will not be staying there again until we hear the problem is fixed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor to avoid headaches and horrible smell

We spent one night here. It was easy to get to and close to restaurants in the area. The lady who checked us in was very nice and kind. I called the front desk for 2 extra pillows and they were delivered by the same lady very quickly. We had a 3rd floor room which was clean. There was a small fridge and a microwave oven in the room. The breakfast is free and was fine. The main problem is the musty smell in the lobby area which also includes the main floor and the elevator. This is probably due to the fact that there is an indoor swimming pool and hot tub (we didn't use them) - and when people leave the pool they are dripping water onto the carpet out in the hall and in the elevator. Suggestion: remove the carpet in the hallway near the pool and install tiling. Remove the carpet in the elevator and install tiling. For the rest of the hallway floors - have them professional steam cleaned. Maybe the indoor pool area needs some venting to the outside??? We were fine on the 3rd floor - no musty smell. The bed was comfortable and the hotel was quiet on our floor. It was fine for one night.

Room Tip: ask a 2nd or 3rd floor room (too musty on the first floor unless they get rid of the hall carpet)

We stayed at this hotel for one night while passing through Harrisonburg, VA. The room was clean and fresh. The bed was very comfortable. The room had pay per view movies and internet access. The free breakfast in the morning was good too. I had the cook to order waffles. Good value for the money! I would recommend to anyone.

Arriving late in the evening after a very long day, the first thing I noticed when I walked through the door was the smell of dampness… moldy smell, mixed with perhaps some pine-sol. It was overwhelming and I would have most likely left had it been so late and that we were traveling with two very tired children. By the next morning, I had a raging headache, which was only made better by leaving. The dampness was pervasive… peeling vinyl and wallpaper indicated to me that perhaps this wasn’t a one-time issue. I went over to the coffee/tea table at breakfast and saw no regular tea, so I asked the person at the desk if they had any. “Oh yeah, I guess we’re out” was the response. Not an even an offer to check. The beds weren’t very comfortable (didn’t get a heck of a lot of sleep that night), and long black hair in the tub topped off the experience. I just wanted to be out of there as fast as I could. I asked my husband how the staff was with him, and he put it perfectly… “They were there - it’s like they just existed.” At least, I found one sweet housekeeper who smiled at me and said good morning. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience and I would not chose this place again.

Room Tip: To get the best room, go to another hotel.
