“Harrisonburg self guided walking tour and civil war info”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

The interior of this historic home has been renovated and is the place to see a video of the impact of the Civil War in this area, and get oodles of info re regional Civil War sites. The vis ctr greeter lady was an enthusiastic font of knowledge of all events happening in Harrisonburg. the New Leaf bakery provides delicious repast before you head off to explore the downtown area - most spots date from late 1800s/early 1900s - except for the Thomas Harrison house. He was founder and namesake of the town, and his rock house was built ca 1740. Did not appear to be open for tours, so that was a disappointment.

“Needs to Be Your First Stop”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

The staff was superb; one lady took a lot of time to give us very useful information about places to eat and local attractions. The maps and guides provided were very helpful in guiding us to places in town. The Civil War orientation wasn't too long and quite informative. Rest rooms were nice and clean. Didn't try out the eatery present but it was a nice touch for a visitor's center with adequate indoor and outdoor seating. The gift shop was also a nice touch, not large but worth looking through. Free parking and a central location within walking distance from a number of attractions also a plus. For those new to Harrisonburg, this should be the first place to go to.

“Nice little tourist office with friendly staff.”
Reviewed July 10, 2013 via mobile

Driving through town saw it and stopped. Very friendly woman helped us with information and recommended the arboretum at JMU. Good amount of brochures and little exhibit including a civil war orientation video which was good.

“Helpful staff”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

We happened upon this while strolling downtown. Looking for someplace to eat before going to our timeshare at Massanutten Resort. It was late afternoon and like many downtowns a lot of businesses looked closed. We were directed to three restaurants, we had walked past them all. Found Clementines and it was great. We would have left if it had not been for the staff at the visitor centre. She gave us lot's of other info as well.

“Excellent visitors center with free museum of the Valley Pike and Civil War Orientation Center”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

This should be the first place one should go if visiting Harrisonburg and Rockingham County They have walking and driving tours and much useful information about this lovely, historic area. There is a free museum about the history of the Valley Pike, Route 11 and a good Civil War Orientation Center, with videos and information about the war and battles that took place in the Shenandoah Valley. The center has a small gift shop and a cafe. There is free parking in their lot in the rear of this historic building.
