“Go for the Beer”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

More beer selection than we have ever seen -- on tap, too. They also have four different varieties of gluten-free beer. Beer rating --5. Atmosphere and ambience were relaxing -- plenty of room in the place, but broken up so it seems a bit more intimate. They had a local(?) bluegrass band the night we were there who provided easy-listening music which was not over-poweringly loud. Atmosphere rating --4. Food was adequate but nothing to write home about. Service was rather slow at times. But the restaurant does have a specific gluten-free menu which raises their rating in this area. Food rating -- 3. We will return to the Capital Ale House next time we're in Harrisonburg. And primarily, we will go for the beer.

“Three words. One Hundred Taps!”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

As I mentioned in my previous post, we ended up in Harrisonburg by happenstance. Cute little town, clean hotel, and friendly staff - who pointed us to THIS place.

They had 100 taps and who knows how many bottles. This is JUST the place we were hoping to find. We tried some of Virginia's best while we were there.

Service was - just okay. It seemed like our young waiter was in a hurry to get somewhere...but was at work. Took a while to get our water, and to get our water refilled.

Food was - okay. I had the BLT on a pretzel bun. It was good, but nothing out of this world.

But...like I said above - ONE HUNDRED TAPS and that would itself make us find ourselves back at this place for sure if ever we return to Harrisonburg.

“Very good food and lot's of beer (though a few were out)”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

No complaints on the food front- good appetizers and a very tasty Cuban. As you might expect have a very impressive list of beers on tap, though not everything we wanted was available and it took a while to get them poured (they seemed to be short staffed when we were there).

Overall, I would recommend. If I'm back in Harrisonburg, I wouldn't hesitate to stop in.

“Great Beer Selection Isn't All You Need”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

We keep hoping we're going to love this restaurant- they have over 200 beers on tap, and a really nice rooftop patio. But the past 2 times we've gone, service has been poor. We've had servers who couldn't get the orders right and one who was downright surly. The food is good but not great.

We love meeting friends for a meal and a really good beer. Capital Ale House has the beers, they have the perfect patio, but for the money spent, we have left twice now feeling let down by the poor service.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

While the beers are abundant, the food and the service leaves a little bit to be desired. At eight o'clock on a Thursday night not only were they out of chicken, they were out of bread! The food is mediocre and while our waiter started off attentive and timely, by the end of the meal we were waving our arms to get his attention. We ordered a second round of drinks when our meals arrived at the table and didn't get them until we were done eating!! That is unacceptable in my book!
