Definately one of the best restaurants to eat at in harrisonburg . The atmosphere was relaxing, the staff were professional and the food was awesome. I highly recommend the salisbury steak ! I was also impressed with the drink selection. I cant wait to go back and try another of the gourmet coffees. I also really liked the bar. The woodwork is perfect. This restaurant is a must for anyone new in town.

the owners have done a wonderful job of re-storing this historic building. A lot of thought and planning went into the design, unfortunately, like many other "themed" restaurants they forgot abount the product coming out of the kitchen. The food my wife and I had for dinner, aug. 11th, was second rate at best. The chicken cordon bleu served with one side of mashed potatoes ($11.95) the chicken was dry and overcooked. The mashed potatoes were tasteless and cold. My atlantic scallops consisted of 5 small scallops which were undercooked and in a waterery liquid, served with the lousy mashed potatoes and cole slaw. the slaw was very good the price ($17.25) We did not aqsk for the dessert menu and left hungry. We are locals and they won"t get a second chance to make a first impression.

My daughter and I ate lunch here on Monday. Seating was prompt and our drink orders taken. The daily specials were explained. The menu is ample and varied. My daughter had a chicken breast sandwich which was good. I had trout with brocali and was ver impressed. It seemed to have the lights of breading and garnished with dill, and was full of taste.
Our server was professional and attentive with hoovering. I agree with another post that the server did not try to be my best friend and liked that. The restaurant was very clean and the background music was soft, allowing for nice conversation.
We were in town to look at apartments and plan to return with the rest of the family this weekend. This place is classy and comfortable at the same time. Job well done.

Union Station in downtown Harrisonburg is part of the resurgence of the historic downtown area. Most of the history downtown is imposing gray stone buildings (ironically by an architect from Staunton) that house government or religious activities. But Union Station is helping to provide a reason for people to be downtown after business hours.

The menu features reasonably-priced comfort food; they try to use ingredients from the region. Think of mac and cheese, burgers, spaghetti and meatballs, salisbury steak. I had the pasta with meatballs; they were zesty with garlic and typical tomato/herb flavors, reasonably moist, and just the right size. My wife had veggie patties, which she liked, although she found them rather odd sitting on top of a salad. Her patties were only lukewarm.

The beer list on draft is quite impressive. They feature relatively local brews.

In the category of atmosphere, each booth has an old picture of Harrisonburg; the server then leaves a one-sheet description of the photo and the era in which it was taken. The owners have taken great pains to restore the former train station, to make it effective as a restaurant, to give it a light and airy feel, but to retain the fabric of the old building. It is an excellent renovation and repurposing.

The server was pleasant, knowledgeable, and enjoyable without trying to become our new best friend.

The food is good (not great) but at a reasonable price in a nice setting. And the local restaurant will add to the local economy, both directly through the people it employs and indirectly by providing a boost to downtown. A good choice.
