“The place is always busy”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

Better than your average buffett. The Wood Grill in Charlottesville, VA seems to be just a bit better (we ate there recently), but this one was not bad at all. Plenty of variety and even the fresh fruit was better than average, particulary for a family restaurant. I am sure you can find something to eat here that you will really like, even if it were just their salad bar. Good value for the money.

“If you're so inclined...”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

Heaps and heaps of fairly average food (the steak was pretty good though) in surpisingly nice surroundings. The service was good, and the kids loved the desserts. I do believe they had the worst pizza ever. But, so what. You can just leave it for the waitress and grab something else.

“MUCH better than you expect from a buffet”
Reviewed June 8, 2012

We were traveling through Harrisonburg and jumped off the interstate for gas and a quick dinner. The guy at the gas station recommended Wood Grill and he hit this one out of the park. Everything we had was well cooked and seasoned. The collards, turnip greens and broccoli casserole were all delicious. The fried shrimp were heavily battered, but were large and sweet tasting. The fried fish was also excellent. The crab cakes were made with "krab" but were spicy and very good. Other notables were the cheese buscuits, fried chicken, Swedish meatballs, steak and ribs. There was a ton of other things we couldn't sample. The only thing that I wouldn't consider above average when compared with a sit-down country cooking/soul food restaurant was the mac and cheese - good flavor but the macaroni was over cooked and mushy. They have a huge dessert bar and the peanut butter pie and the coconut cream pie were both tasty. At $10 per person plus $2 for a drink, this place cant be beat.

A wide variety choices served in a neat, clean atmosphere. The service was good. The food quality is good making it an average meal at an economical price.

“Nice little escape when traveling cross-country.”
Reviewed June 2, 2012

I always try and find a nice little escape when traveling cross country. I get so tired of chains and fast food places. The local flavor can sometimes be risky leaving you still hungry, tired and with a little less money.
Here however, just across the street from the Residence Inn (see my review) and you get a real treat. The food was perfect temperature and had lovely flavors. It was affordable and a quaint atmosphere. It was too cold to eat outside but the patio seating would really be nice in summer.
You will enjoy it. Unique items as well as steak, chicken and seafood standards.
