“Great place to celebrate our anniversary! ”
Reviewed November 25, 2013 via mobile

Great appetizers, great steaks, great deserts, great friendly service. Very nice atmosphere. A little pricey but worth it. I can't really say anything bad. We had a great meal that was very nicely presented with really good friendly service. We are definitely looking forward to coming back!

“Great Atmosphere & Local Music”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

We love going here each month and hearing our favorite local music artists play. Great atmosphere and secluded bar area. Reasonable prices for alcohol and great music. Highly recommend. Arrive early for a performance if you want a table to sit at during the performance.

“Great Food & Service”
Reviewed November 2, 2013 via mobile

Went for dinner on a Saturday night. The menu features many local, organic ingredients, and combines interesting flavor combinations. You choose from 3 rubs and about 10 different sauces for the protein part of the meal, which included several types of beef, pork, chicken, fish, duck, and some vegetarian options. Everything we had was delicious, and the service was impeccable. A jewel in Harrisonburg.

“There is a reason they are #1 Upscale and Good!”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

First off, reservations are essential. We visited during the evening of a weekday and we are glad we made reservations. They open at 5pm for dinner (the bar is opened at 4pm). We arrived at about 4:30 before valet parking started and found on of the few on lot parking slots. We had a drink in the dinning room and were allowed to carry our drinks upstairs (a very long staircase) to the dinning room. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that hats were not allowed to be worn in the dinning room. My mother would have loved this place.

At the table our waitress, Hanna, greeted us and was most congenial and knowledgeable. We (the four of us) had 3 glasses of a very good house Sauvignon Blanc and a beer. The menu was somewhat unique. You were given a list of about 12 entrees, 2 house rubs, a number of sweet & tart, Savory or Hot and Spicy sauces and about 7 house sides. All locally acquired. I had the 12 oz pork chop with the house rub, and the Yuzu sauce. I chose the local Chèvre Mac N Cheese and Roasted Asparagus with lemon sea salt. Excellent!!

My wife had the local trout filets with the Shenandoah Garden Rub with Butternut squash and tarragon risotto. Our guest had the same. They all raved about it.

The food was mouth watering, the service was prompt and friendly, ambiance was quiet -- you could carry on a conversation without being overwhelmed with the background noise but not so much as to allow your conversation to be heard all over the floor.

We all hope to return sometime soon and enjoy some of the other entrees. I can without equivocation recommend the Local Chop and Grill House as the place to dine.

ps: regarding reservations, I called on a Thursday to make reservations for Saturday and they only had two left unfortunately they were too late for us but we learned to call much earlier. Good Luck and enjoy

“Enjoyable Experience”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

This was our first visit to Harrisonburg and first visit to the Local Chop & Grill House. We had a most enjoyable evening. The restaurant itself is at one corner of the old Produce Exchange building in Harrisonburg and its exposed oak beams and brick walls reflect the historic nature of the building.

Calling to make the reservation was a real treat because the person I spoke to was was warm and friendly and asked the purpose of our visit and was delighted to hear that it was our first visit to the restaurant. This exchange left us in a good mood and excited about the evening. This feeling continued as we were greeted just as warmly when we walked in the front door and escorted to our table.

Dinner was excellent, my wife ordered the scallops and I had the 12 oz. sirloin. The preparation is rather unique as you get to choose the seasoning (the rub) and sauce for your entree. We had contemplated getting an appetizer, but we were glad we did not as the size of the portions were just right. The service was very good, and the only detractor from giving the service an excellent rating was our waiter was somewhat pretentious. He reminded us of the actor Thomas Haden Church, more like his character in Sideways than the Lowell character in Wings. But other than that minor detail, the meal and the atmosphere made for a very enjoyable evening. We would definitely go there again.

Oh, be aware that parking is not the greatest in that neighborhood, however there is free valet parking and I would recommend taking advantage of that service.
