We took the cruise while on holidays visiting relatives in the area. I was impressed with the knowledge of the guide who was able to identify specific ships by number in the harbour (including the USS Cole) as well as various aircraft that came by during the tour. There were also a number of sites of historic interest. I am not an aircraft or ship buff but found it fascinating nonetheless.

Beautiful day for a cruise. We learned a lot but it was a little hard to hear the guide from the back of the top deck. So we moved closer.

We stopped at Ft. Wool which was a lot of fun. Good information and time to walk around. It was interesting to hear about why three presidents have visited this little fort.

As an extra bonus the captain insured we were able to see a nuclear sub coming in.

It was also good to see the repaired USS Cole.

Taking a boat ride around the Norfolk Naval Base was amazing. To see all those large vessels was unbelievable! We saw so many planes, helicopters, and bombers. It is such fun to watch those little tugboats leading the way for the ships. It is hard to believe that anything that size can stay afloat. The weather was terrific, the commentary amazing. Thanks for giving us some fond memories.

This is not just something for tourists. We've lived in the Hampton Roads area for 5 years and found it unique and interesting. The guide does a very good job of explaining the history of the Hampton Roads and why the area had had such an historically important role. The opportunity to view the ships at the Norfolk Naval Base and walk the grounds of Fort Wool was really neat. They do a very good job of putting history in context. If you are not from this area, it's a great way to understand and gain perspective on the importance of the region that you won't just get from seeing the sites on land.

I've lived in Hampton my entire life and did not realize the amount of history right on my doorstep! The cruise was great but the narrator, Herb I believe his name was, truly made the experience excellent. He was knowledgeable and clever. I liked that he took us from 1607 right up to present day through his narration. He was also knew quite a lot about each of the ships station in Norfolk Naval Station. If you have the opportunity, love the sea, naval craft and/or history, I highly recommend a day cruise on the Miss Hampton II.
