“Nice but not worth the price”

The hotel itself is very beautiful with an amazing view. The staff is kind of alright except they aren't that invested in the customer service part of there job. The bar and the restaurant were very nice. I loved in the summer when the Oyster bar and grill is open.

Room Tip: It's worth the extra money for a marina view, just make sure it's above the 2nd floor.

I would actually give this 3.5 stars if possible. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza a few weeks ago, and liked it. The decor was great, following a crisp navy and white nautical theme throughout. We received meal tickets for breakfast upon checking. It was a plentiful buffet, with muffins, eggs, pancakes, bacon, fresh fruit, an omelet station, etc. The bathroom was neat and clean, but pretty basic. It didn't come with a hair dryer, but one was provided by the front desk when I asked for one. The location was perfect for us, since we were there for a boating event. We had a room with a connecting door, and quite a bit of noise came through the connecting door - the TV, cell phones ringing, voices, etc. I would happily stay here again if in the area, but I'd try to get a room without a connecting door.

We enjoyed our Labor Day weekend stay here. The front desk staff was friendly, and helpful. The lobby and lounge areas are well decorated, roomy and comfortable.

Our room was clean and well lit with a nice view of the pool. Good picture and sound on the TV. Internet access was easy. The bathroom was clean and modern with high end lotion, soap and shampoo (I love the smell of the soap). The bed was very comfortable; linens and towels were decent quality, clean and soft. Floors looked clean though there was one long hair on the bathroom floor. I did not detect any dust, dirt or bugs. There was an excellent jazz band playing at the marina during the weekend.


The hotel is conveniently located near several restaurants, shopping, the University and just a few minutes from Buckroe beach. Buckroe beach is a great family oriented beach – not too crowded,very clean with lots of free parking and picnics tables.

We drove a full size pickup truck with a bike rack on the back and could not park in the elevated parking deck. There is very limited street level parking behind the hotel (near the marina) for larger vehicles. The parking situation for us was not great because smaller cars that could have parked in the deck, took valuable spaces reserved for the larger vehicles.

I recently stayed at the Crowne Plaza for a business meeting. Upon check-in, I was upgraded due to being a IHG Rewards member and I had a very nice 8th floor room overlooking the marina, but that is not why I was there! My first priority was to log in to a business meeting online and I found out 15 minutes before my meeting that the internet in the hotel was not working. The front desk told me just a few minutes earlier to navigate to their wireless connection and click on Terms of agreement. I continued to try throughout the afternoon and evening and was continually prompted to enter a log in and password though the front desk continued to tell me that I didn't need to do that. This continued into the next morning and I never did get online. I finally gave up completely since I had to go downstairs to the meeting room for my conference. This was when things really deteriorated so please note that if you ever need to book a meeting or other event at this facility, be certain to inquire about other meetings that might be going on simultaneously. As is turns out, just on the other side of a thin dividing wall of our meeting room was a lively group that spent the entire morning not only whooping and rejoicing, but also singing and clapping their hands! Our group of higher education administrators and scholars were unable to hear our presenters despite having amplification. To say the least, the entire experience for us was a complete disaster!

You can't beat the location of this hotel. It is right on the Hampton River with excellent views of the nearby marinas. You can walk 10 minutes to some good places to eat and drink.

Our room was dated and the furnishings need to be updated. The walls are beat up and the carpets are torn and stained. On a positive note, the bed was comfortable and the room size was good. The sliding doors on the shower would not open easily or at all, but after reporting this to the front desk they were promptly fixed and worked very well.

This could be a great place to stay if the rooms were updated.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the harbor, the views are excellent.

The location of the hotel is great however the rooms have mold and wet floors in them. As a Hampton Alumni, I stayed in this hotel this past weekend and ended up sick from smelling mold all weekend in my hotel room. The carpet was so wet we had to wear our shoes in our room which normally I never do. The maids and service in the hotel was very good and everyone was extremely nice. When we checked out we were told the GM would contact us by Tuesday and now that it is Friday I am still awaiting a phone call. This Hotel it the perfect location on the water and close to Hampton University. I am not sure what plans they have of correcting this issue but you would think that if they would have addressed it before last homecoming weekend. They need to replace all of the carpets and padding in all of the rooms because just shampooing them will not take care of the issue. I hope this is corrected before next homecoming so we can have a better experience.

We stayed our Homecoming weekend there and were really unpleasantly surprised and disappointed. Our first room reeked of damp, musty, mildew from very wet carpet. Should this not dry properly, the hotel could be looking at black mold and the necessity of shutting down the 7th floor.

Room Tip: No room on the lower end of the 7th floor is safe right now. 701 - 709.
