Without a doubt the best of the best in northern virginia. We arrived very early and they could not have been more understanding. So many choices! Service was impeccable. Roquefort tart, sweetbreads were our appetizers. Perfectly prepared, delivered hot to the table. Tuna and softshell crabs were our entrees done exactly right and delicious. Bread pudding dessert was decadent. Cheerful atmosphere. Closer than the Inn at Little Washington. Going back!

We look forward to visiting this authentic and superb restaurant in the beautifully rural part of Great Falls, VA, for special occasions. Everything, the hosting, the wait staff, the ambiance and, of course, the food, are exquisite and at the level of perfection.

Starting with an appetizer not found anywhere else nearby! Les asperges vertes au jambon de Virginie, côpeaux de gruyère, capres et oeuf de caille: warm asparagus on Virginia country ham, gruyere cheese, capers and quail egg. Fantastic.

We each had the same entrée: La matelote de poissons et crustaçés comme en Alsace, sauce homardine au champagne: lobster, shrimp, scallop, crabmeat, salmon and rockfish, champagne lobster sauce, picture attached and perfectly, truly perfectly prepared.

Because my husband had told them it was my birthday, I received a wonderful surprise of meringue and ice cream, in addition to my ordered crême brulée. I'm running out of superlatives.

We are so grateful that the family who runs this restaurant continues to be true to its Alsace roots and that every detail is made to matter. It remains our place to celebrate the most important of events in our lives.

This is a gem. The recipes and choices the chef makes are to die for. Every course is a surprise of ingredients. The patio setting with two acres of lawn and an herb garden is very unique. Truly unique.

Our family has been coming to Chez Francois for over 20 years for special occasions of anniversaries, birthdays and Holidays. The food is still good and the service very professional.

The prices have tripled over the years to arround $100.00 per person with wine for an evening meal. The menu selections seem more limited than times past and dominated by seafood rather than meat.

Our 8:45 reservation was held until 9:00 and the staff seemed put out that we didn't leave by 10:00. We were told that parties of 6 or more could not have a reservation until after 8:30.

We may go back next year, but we will probably seek an alternative "special occasion restaurant"

Chez Francois is a first-rate restaurant not only for its food and wine but also for its setting in the woods and its interior ambiance. It's really a "special occasion" restaurant as no one deserves to eat this well regularly! The wine dinners, which are fixed price, prepaid affairs, are especially good. You are served a different wine from the same vintner with each course, and experts from the vintner provide a little background lecture on each before you taste it. As there are no reserved seats and you sit at long tables, you get to meet and chat with new and usually interesting people. If price is an issue, go there for lunch instead of dinner, or use the more informal downstairs bistro. No matter how you do it, you will go away asking yourself what the next thing in your life that might possibly qualify as a "special occasion" might be....
