Description: Travellers in the beautiful Alsatian countryside, seek out "auberge", the little family inns that dot the roadsides, to eat well and enjoy the scenery. They know they will find fine food and glowing spirits, at an excellent value. Welcome to L"Auberge Chez Francois, our French country inn a short distance from the nation's capital, nestled among lush woods and fragrant gardens, that has captivated visitors for over 50 years. L'Auberge Chez Francois is the ideal spot to celebrate special moments, private parties, luncheons, weddings and cooking demonstrations. Our menu is extensive and full of the flavors of Alsace and traditional French cuisine. Excellent food and service, attention to detail and a casually elegant atmosphere are hallmarks that have made L'Auberge Chez Francois a Washington favorite. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy your visit with us. Jacques Brasserie at L'Auberge is open Tues-Sat,5-9:00PM,Sunday 3-7:30PM. Reservations for Jacques' Brasserie via phone only!

This restaurant is a favorite of ours for a birthday or other celebration for several reasons: the drive is lovely down a Va. country road, ESP on a sunny day; the Inn itself is very traditional, evocative of ones seen in France and Germany; the Gardens outside the large windows are restful to look at Winter and Summer; and the large fireplace in Winter as well as the wall decorations and table linens provide a wonderful homey feeling. The tables are not crowded together, one enjoys one's meal in a quiet space, service is excellent ant unhurried. The fix price 4 course meals are well- priced as there is sufficient variety of fish, meat and vegetarian selections to please most, with somewhat of an Alsatian focus. I would not deem the L'Auberge as a place for Foodies . It's not on the order of Voltaggio's or the Inn at Little Washington but neither is the price. Fav dishes: poached Lobster, any of the desert soufflés.

Little details count. Had the maitre d'hotel got this intolerably loud and boistrous family of four including a toddler and a cradled baby (sprawled all over the place with their suff lying around) seated off in a more secluded part of their multi-chambered restaurant, he would have saved the other patrons a lot of discomfort.

This was the first and only negative experience I ever had at l'Auberge, which I regard as one of the best in the DC area.

We dined at L'Auberge Chez Francois a number of times and each time we go we appreciate their sterling customer attention and food!!! Their quality in everything they do and provide is top of the line, excellent!!!! They have no peer as far as french cuisine that we know of. When we dine there it as if we have been transported to France with all of the accompanying trademark gourmet cuisine that this entails. We look forward to our next visit (our mouths are watering at the prospect!!).

We chose L'Auberge for our anniversary dinner this year and were very pleased. Easy to spend $300 on a meal that earns it. I've lived in New Orleans and traveled to Paris many times over the decades, and this restaurant stacks up with the best ... But without the pretense. It's very relaxed, leisurely dining that takes 2.5-3 hours.
With all the extras before and between courses (ie great breads, small piece of onion tart, apple cider sorbet) and an entree that includes soup or appetizer and salad, it's a culinary adventure, indeed! Don't pass up the dessert soufles! Our Grand Marnier souflees were fabulous!
Definitely what a special dining occasion in a french country inn should be. Just amazed to find it tucked away in charming Great Falls (30-40 minutes from DC).

My wife and I returned to L'auberge chez Francois, this time with our family, after an absence of many years and found it is still a lovely place for a special meal. The restaurant remains as charming as ever, and the staff was exceptionally gracious, continually refilling our water glasses without our asking and accommodating special requests, such as a scoop of ice cream and chocolate sauce to accompany the traditional cheesecake. Meals are currently prix fixe, comprising an amuse bouche, appetizer, salad, a small portion of sorbet, main course, and dessert, with the price depending on the choice of entree, and a few options for other courses available for a supplement. Appetizers and desserts were delicious, and we all enjoyed the house salad, with a tangy, mustard-infused dressing. Souffles, which come at a supplementary price and are ordered at the start of the meal, were exceptional -- tastier than I recall from years ago. Our entrees were also quite good, although not quite at the same level as other courses. Dinner offers more choices of entrees than our Sunday lunch, although the price is considerably higher. In all, we enjoyed our meal and look forward to returning.
