went there for my 30th bday. The staff was all so polite and attentive - ALL the staff. The food was absolutely delicious. Husband had steak and I had rainbow trout. Come on an empty stomach.

“Celebrate Fine Dining at Chez Francois”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

For special holidays or celebrations, this is the place we love. The food, the service, the ambiance. This restaurant with its country setting is also very romantic and so much easier than going to DC.

“Special Family Dinner”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

When visiting our daughter and son-in-law in Virginia last month, we couldn't decide between Italian, Mediterranean or something different for our Friday dinning out experience. We were there to celebrate an early surprise birthday party for our son-in-law. After much consideration, we finally agreed on French and I am glad we did. Our daughter made the reservation at Jacques' Brasserie which is downstairs in the back. We actually prefer the more casual experience of a bistro. The drive from McLean seemed long and slow, but it was worth it when we arrived. The wait staff was attentive and informative and never pressured us to turn the table in what was a crowded evening. We started with a variety of appetizers and salads and were all so pleased with our choices that there was very little sharing or talking. Two of us had the trout, one had the steak and one chose one of the specials which was enjoyed with a bottle of reasonably priced wine. Delicious. This place could be on our "must visit" list although it is farther afield than we usually travel for dinner unless it is into the city for one of the fine restaurants there. Another sign that the place is special is the appearance of an unnamed very famous politician who was there having dinner with his wife and her daughter. Other than the chef coming out for a photo, everyone left the family alone to enjoy their dinner as well. Part of me is hesitant to recommend the bistro because next time we try to make a reservation on the evening we would like to dine, it may be booked! Dinner for four with drinks, wine, appetizers or salads and entree was $295 for four people. Not bad for a special evening out.

“Enjoyable anniversary dinner!”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

My husband and I celebrated our 10th anniversary at L'Auberge Chez Francois and enjoyed it immensely! We have had family and friends telling us to go for ages and we were glad that we finally did. The food was as expected from a fine dining establishment - perfectly prepared and we savored every bite. The plate presentation wasn't very exciting - definitely more along the lines of relaxed country plating instead of the more high end modern flourishes, but that didn't have any bearing on the taste! I will say my husband and I found the service to be a bit too efficient. There wasn't any warmth or interest in us on the part of our waiter. He was pleasant, but definitely too busy or maybe just not one of the welcoming warm types. He answered questions, but didn't volunteer anything. I realized at the end of the meal he hadn't asked us once if we enjoyed our dinner. I am guessing it is a one-off thing since I have only ever heard good things about service (as many of the reviews below reflect!), but when you spend that kind of money it is a bit disappointing not to feel as though they care. I would note that the souffle is an absolute must (order at the beginning of the meal) and one of my favorite dishes of the night was the foie gras appetizer (a beautiful piece and quite sizable for that type of dish). It was an enjoyable anniversary dinner! Many thanks!

“Best place to eat in Northern Virginia”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Words can't describe the quality of the food at this restaurant. We have eaten there on several occasions over the last couple of years and it just keeps getting better. Awesome service, top notch food, and the wine selection is terrific. If you want the best quality French food in Virginia, to celebrate a special occasion, go here.
