We were in a deluxe cabin. It was run down and dirty. Gordonsville is in the middle of nowhere - it takes 30 minutes to even get to a decent grocery store.
The pool in the main building smelled of mold.

I got married in the Ben Lamond Manor House on the Shenandoah Crossing Resort. It was the best day my husband and I could have asked for. The manor house is fabulous, and the scenary is perfect for a wedding. The manor house has its own pool and hot tub, so we threw a tropical themed pool side reception. We plan on going back to celebrate our anniversary one of these years. I tried to reserve it in 2006 and again this year in 2007 but it is all booked up. Hopefully I'll get it in 2008.

As Bluegreen Owners we have visited Shenandoah Crossing for the day numerous times over this past summer and stayed at one of their cabins as well. We have had good times each time we have visited this resort. The indoor and outdoor activities had kept our family busy including riding the pontoon boat on Lake Izaac. The last two stays, our girls volunteered at the horse stable and enjoy riding the horses. The Grand Cabin was very comfortable and the picture window displayed a beautiful sunrise and sunset scene overlooking Lake Izaac at a distance. The cabin were clean and free of bugs and the kitchen appliances were also very clean. It was nice having the amenities of having a wood burning fireplace which made it even more cozier and a gas grill with a screen-in porch. We will continue on venturing off for the day or even weekends for a relaxing and fun-filled family affair.

We are Blue Greene owners and became so at Shenandoah Crossing. Those looking for luxury and a 5 star experience won't find it here, but we love it. I travel a lot and compare it to a solid 3 star hotel with 4 star ammenities . . . one must remember you are in the middle of almost nowhere . . . that is the attraction for my family. I get enough of Washington DC throughout the year, I don't need a Hyatt or Westfields experience with egyptian linens . . . though I do wish the linens would be upgraded. We relax, play putt-putt golf, ride ponies, swim, use hot tub and sauna, walk around . . . grill out, use the game room . . .basically spend time together as a family doing fun stuff that builds precious memories for my daughter.

In our 4 years of owning each year something is overhauled and improved. Year one new roofs for all cabins, year two was landscaping, year three lighting was improved dramatically. This past year the mattresses were all upgraded to a very nice quality and decking was added to each cabin making them much more accessible and "neat."

We like just relaxing in the cabin, swimming, antiquing in Gordonsville; we will miss the 007 local cafe . . . seems the town character is undegoing a "Charlottesville" cultural overhaul and we find that sad. Small town living at its best was available there.

We take advantage of a sales update each time and colelct up to $75 in cash each time. This last time we had a harsh, hard nosed female closer . . . outright rude, lying and unprofessional. But that is the time share industry. Thankfully I am a much better negotiator than she, and I will return in the Spring for another $75 and refusal to upgrade.

Like I said we come here for a rustic back to nature experience . . . if you are searching for a Washington DC pampering ala Paris Hilton . . . fuggetaboutit. If you want to praise God in nature come on out.

We understand BlueGreene bought the "resort" when it was a broken down property with dirt roads and run down cabins. The lodge was in almost ruins. It is so clear that major money has flowed into the resort over the last 4 years and continues to do so. Supposedly there are plans to build a new lodge, long overdue though it got a fresh overhaul of apint inside this year as well as the pool. As I said, if you are looking for posh . . .stay home, I don't want to hang out with you anymore than you want to hang out with me.

  • Liked — Rustic beauty
  • Disliked — Could have better linen and clean slightly better
  • Tips/Secrets — Listen to sales pitch and collect $50

My husband and I are Bluegreen owners and booked our stay with points. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin and really enjoyed the privacy of this location. Upon arrival at our cabin we noticed a couple of items that needed attention (our porch light was burned out and we needed an additional roll of toilet tissue). Once reported, someone was at our cabin door within minutes to accommodate our needs.

I had called prior to our visit to ask if the cabins had DVD players and was told that they did, so we took DVDs to watch during our stay. We were disappointed when we arrived and there was a VHS player instead. We feel an update is in order.

We enjoyed having a full kitchen so we could cook our meals, but the kitchen could use some more cookware. We had to reuse the same pot to cook separate items because the other pots were too small.

The cabin was quite spacious but very basic in furniture. (We were in a standard cabin, so others may have more deluxe features.) The rooms could use a little more accessories.

We wanted to go horseback riding but the equestrian center was closed on Tuesdays (the only full day we were there). This information would have been helpful on the web site.

If you are looking for a rustic, out of the way place to relax in peace and quiet, then this is the place for you. We enjoyed this property for the short time we were there. We probably would have enjoyed it more during another time of year. (Spring or Fall foliage) All in all, though, we had a good time.

My husband and I booked a cabin through Blue Green from October 9 to 13. We, too, were a little dubious after reading some of the reviews. I'm happy to report, however, that we had a very good experience.

Our accommodations were neat, clean, well-equipped and in good repair. The cabins have received fresh interiour paint, new carpet and some new furniture lately so some of the problems reported in previous reviews have been resolved.

The staff is above average; they are well-trained and empowered. The first cabin we were given had a clogged toilet. The maintenance person was on our doorstep in about two minutes flat, and when he couldn't make a quick fix he promptly had us moved to a cabin in a better location. The situation was resolved with efficiency, professionalism and good cheer.

As others have reported Shenandoah is a visually stunning area, and there's plenty to do in and around the resort.

We especially recommend the Barboursville Vineyards (skip Horton). The setting is exquisite, and we had a fabulous prix fixe luncheon at their on-site restaurant, Palladio. Also, check out the Barboursville Ruins of the Thomas Jefferson-designed home that went up in flames on a Christmas Day in the mid-1800s.

We, too, had a couple of very nice dinners at Tollivers, and you gotta try Fabio's, next door to Food Lion. Don't be put off by it's mild-mannered pizza joint exterior. They have a delicious and wide-ranging Italian menu with some truly unique dishes.

Gordonsville is nice to stroll, and girls, if you're seriously into fine clothing and accessories, bring your plastic to S. H. Merrick on Main St. and plan on staying awhile. VERY fun!

All in all, it was a relaxing, kick-back autumn mini-vacation we would absolutely do again.

Was at this place back in August 2006. Loved it. My family rode horses all but one day of our week long stay. We stayed in one of the town houses. We had one side and my sisters family had the other. We opened the middle doors and used it as one big house. The scenery is breath taking, and driving to Monticeillo was wonderful with the beautiful country side. We only ate once at the restaraunt, it was small but served great food, large portions. Indoor and out door pools were great for adults and the kids. Even had a small R/C track that my son ran his car on. Although some of the summer staff was quite young, almost all were pleasant to deal with. We signed on for a trial membership with Blue Green. Hope to visit there again in the future.
