Hampton Inn Richmond-West
Ranked #1 of 23 Hotels in Glen Allen
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 26, 2010

Our first stay in this particular Hampton Inn, and it was one of the nicest we've seen. Near Short Pump Mall and easy access to I295. About 20 minutes from down town Richmond, so if that's your destination, there are probably closer hotels of this nature. The location fit our needs perfectly, though.
Our room was comfortable with excellent reading lights over the beds ( a real plus for my wife and I, who both enjoy reading ourselves to sleep). Flat Screen TV had excellent picture for NFL game that night. Cushy chair in the corner would have served if needed. But for extended stay, I would prefer a sofa.
Breakfast was standard fare for H.I., which we appreciate being included in the price.
Staff was universally friendly and eager to help, offering us cookies and bottled water at every turn.
We will be visiting Richmond/Glenn Allen area often in the future as our daughter now lives near the Inn's location, and we will definately stay here again.

I've stayed at this hotel about 25 times over the past 5 years. It's an okay place - good for earning Hilton Honors points - but the feeling is "sterile," the Internet is slow, and the breakfast is standard Hampton fare.

The people are very nice.

If this place made some enhancements - actually, if the entire Hampton chain was improved by owner Blackstone - I would stay here religiously.

We recently stayed at the Hampton Inn when we took our daughter to VCU for her freshman year. What a nice place! The grounds were perfectly manicured with lush plants and even a cozy outdoor sitting area. The lobby was nicely furnished - comfortable upolstered furniture and nice tables and chairs for breakfast. Warm cookies were waiting for us when we came back from a busy move-in day. Breakfast was nice - cereal, pastries, bagels, muffins, sausage and eggs and 4 different types of really good coffee. Our room was comfortable - the Hampton beds are VERY plush. There was a refrigerator, wireless internet, a hair dryer, and all the little amenities like toiletries and a night light in the bathroom. Hampton Inns amaze me. They are clean, well-run and everyone goes out of their way to make you comfortable. All this for $99 a weekend night. A bargain.

As a mom of a youth baseball player and a travel agent, I selected the Hampton Inn as the accomodations for the team and families during the state championships because of their location and price. The sales director and staff worked with me to ensure the proper room types, early check-in, materials for arrival, special requests and more. Upon check-in all went smootly and rooms were ready upon early arrival. The locaton is beautfiul and perfect for families with a wide variety of restaurants within walking distance. Rooms are good size, clean and well maintained. Bathrooms are well equipped. Staff are very cheerful, knowledgeable and service oriented.

The boys were restricted in what they could do and we endured a full day of rain, but the staff made us welcome, allowing us to congregate in the lobby area making it our "living room," where everyone talked, watched TV, played games and read. The hotel made sure there was water, coffee, fresh fruit and cookies available. Breakfast attendants ensured all the boys and families had water to taked to the field. Attention was given to room issues immediately. Staff even provided assistance with laundry by allowing us to wash the boys uniforms at a sister property and provided plastic bags for hauling and sorting uniforms for return.

At the end of our long weekend, many of the boys did not want to leave. Parents reported to me that they were very happy with the rooms, location, service and amenities. For those looking for a hotel on the west side of Richmond that can accomodate a number of families or a group, this is a wonderful option and one that should not be overlooked by those usually looking at Sheratons, Marriotts and Hiltons.

We stayed here for one night to break up a long drive home after our vacation. Since Hamptons are usually fine, I reserved a room as a place to crash in the Richmond vicinity, nothing more. However, we were so delighted with this hotel that we are planning a return trip in the fall to explore Richmond and stay a few nights.

This was one of the cleanest hotels in which we have ever stayed. Nothing seemed worn, and you can't beat the amenities for the price. Our two rooms each had a mini fridge, a flat screen TV with a lot of channels, a variety of toiletries in the bathrooms, and very comfortable beds. The bathroom was lovely, with a nice sink on a pretty stand with shelves underneath. Of course, the cookies upon arrival, 24-hour hot drinks, and the breakfast buffet with a ton of options are wonderful, especially when traveling with children. It saves a lot of money and hassle to have all that available in the hotel and included in the room price.

Our teenagers enjoyed the outdoor pool. It wasn't large, but it was refreshing. The pool area was quite clean and nicely landscaped, too.

I was surprised how peaceful and quiet this hotel was in the middle of a commercial park, surrounded by stores, offices, and restaurants. The location was great for a quick meal at a chain restaurant and a stop at a nearby CVS for some drinks and medicine we needed.

The only thing we didn't find at this hotel was a pay-per-view movie option. We've watched a current movie as a family before at other Hamptons, but this one didn't appear to offer that service. Obviously that's nothing to get broken up about.

We'll be back!

Family was visiting Richmond for an event, and did not want to stay in noisy, dirty downtown Richmond. We always use Hampton Inn, as they are inexpensive and provide excellent service. This stay was no different, and was even better than normal.
Upon entering the hotel, the front desk staff quickly addressed us, and were delightful. Offered us cookies and coffee, and even rang our room a few minutes after we got into it to make sure we were satisfied.
The hotel is located outside of the downtown area, maybe 15-20 minutes away. It is located in the nicer, West End area and has everything you need minutes away. Has an outdoor mall, Short Pump Town Center and every other kind of shopping nearby on Broad Street. Capitol Ale House is an enjoyable and tasty option for drinks and dinner, and it is within walking distance. If you want a reasonably priced, clean and spacious stay in the Richmond area, you cannot go wrong with Hampton Inn.
The only complaint, is that the free breakfast buffet in the morning can be crowded, forcing you to bring your food back to the room. But that was during peak times, so early birds might not have that issue. And it is free and tasty, so it is not a major concern. As always, Hampton Inn impresses while keeping prices down.

My husband was on business in Richmond and we stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The rooms are a bit small but the service and the staff make up the difference. The beds were very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was good. The breakfast was very well stocked and at night they always have chips and dip or crackers and dip and cookies. We were there during the American Idol finale and we watched the TV in the hotel lobby and all the staff watched with us and we all had so much fun! I will definately stay at this hotel again.
