The wines are pretty good, and the staff was very friendly. The place is very nice, as it was just built in the last few years. The thing that puts this place over the top though, is the guest house on site that they rent out. It's literally in the front yard of the tasting/warehouse building, and is amazing inside. 1BR with a living area, fireplace, and a beautiful bathroom. We didn't stay there, but wished that we had. If you plan on making a trip out this way, call this place up and rent the guest house.

I experienced my first wine tasting at Mt. Vale and plan on returning soon to stay in their guesthouse. The owner spared no expense, the grounds, winery, and guesthouse is absolutely gorgeous. The owner is a very kind gentlemen, and the hostess was knowledgable and the wine? We bought two bottles that day and ordered a case to ship home!,,

My husband and I went to Mt Vale for the Plein Art day. We enjoyed the views, talking with the artists, and had a great experience in the tasting room. The staff were friendly and inviting. The owner did part of our tasting. We enjoyed the wines. We were impressed with the dry wines.

This is one beautiful vineyard if you get a chance to visit. I was up for live music outside. They have obviously put a lot of money into the winery and grounds. I would like to stay there one night in there bungalow. It looks very nice.
The wine is fantastic. They are definitely going to make a big splash over the next few years if their juice is this good in their first year.

The title just about sums it all up. This is a very small winery tucked away on a back road off of VA Highway 89 just south of Galax, Virginia. This winery has been carefully created by a husband, wife, and their vintner on a beautiful hillside near the Blue Ridge in southern Virginia. The buildings (each one a major project within itself) are beautiful. The tasting room is a pleasant place to taste their wines. You can enjoy a bottle there or outside on the patio, or in a nearby gazebo. The winery also includes a guest house that is comfortable and tastefully decorated.

We were there on a Thursday afternoon just after Labor Day, so things were a little slow. After the tasting we split a bottle of Cabernet between two couples along with a block of Irish cheddar cheese. We sat at an inside table and carried on an hour-long conversation with the owners. The vintner arrived with a couple of baggies of grapes that she was planning to test to determine exactly when they were ready for harvest. We got the chance to have a long discussion about the winery's history and their wine making process. You probably won't get this kind of attention on a Saturday, but this was one of our best experiences visiting a small, local winery.

The wine? It was really good -- about as good as any Cabernet we've had. These folks have the process right. We bought an extra bottle home with us.

Mt. Vale is located pretty close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and would combine very well with a Parkway visit. Just take the exit for Galax, Virginia, and then follow the signs from highway 89.
