We were late in the season, and late in the evening when we tried go get something for dinner in Front Royal and knocked on the door of the 'Vino e Formaggio'.

The result was that we were served a premium dinner, with much of it harvested fresh from their own garden. This alone is clearly worth a recommendation.
But we also got a lecture on Virginia wines, and a map and tips what wineries to visit.

If we get a chance to visit Front Royal again, we will make sure we are not too late in any sense, and visit this fine restaurant again.

First of all ..this owner GETS IT! Christiaan and Rachel make an amazing pair. Christiaan takes a good dining experience to GREAT by engaging with everyone, without pretense! No snobbery here, just very fresh local foods, a simple menu offering 6 amazing choices. We were a party of 6 and managed to get "one of each"! The Lasagne with beef and pork, may have been the best I have ever tasted. The local sausage and mashed were incredible as well as the white pizza , 5 fromaggio macaroni n cheeze, and the virginia ham and brie with arugula on the best crusty, lightly warmed but soft-inside ,roll!
My taste buds were in heaven the ENITRE time!
Social Media saavy helps,as this couple offered a TIPS only ,thanksgiving dinner. WHen 30 agents were called to a large crime scene on thanksgiving, this duet packaged up full turkeys with trimmings and sent them over to this hardworking team who were taken away from their family dinner tables....WHO DOES THIS????????!!! THESE GUYS DO!
The FB post offering an $8 lunch today, which includes a salad ,made with local mixed greens and Rachel's own dressing, was our incentive for heading over today; coupled with my brother and his wife talking about what a lively spirit Christiaan is, and how he brings this place to life ...WITHOUT ANY PRETENSE! JUST GREAT FOOD AND SINCERE AND INFOMRED HOSPITALITY!
It felt like home in a quirky and comfortable way!
This place is ready to be on the Food Network! NOW!...
under the radar, but over the top!
Winner win...keep up your winning ways!

My boyfriend and I visited front royal this past July and decided last minute to eat here for dinner on our last night. The chef and front of house staff was extremely friendly and helpful in explaining their wine selection. The chef even helped us find the perfect wine to pair with our meal. We shared the margherita pizza and Mac and cheese and they were both divine! If you are in front royal you must come to vino otherwise you will miss out on a great dining experience!

This is a small but hidden gem of a restaurant in historical downtown Front Royal. I can't believe we are just trying this place for the first time. The menu changes regularly depending on the availability of local items in season. Have always loved that rationale. Chef Christian is a very entertaining and wonderful chef. He greets and talks to his customers and you can tell he is passionate about the food he serves. My husband and I started with the Meat and Cheese Plate. The prosciutto, sausage and cheeses were of remarkable quality and taste. Not to mention their wonderful fresh bread they serve with the Meat and Cheese Plate. My husband tried a four-cheese and crab pasta dish. It was remarkable - the flavors all complimented each other. I had a Pumpkin Polenta dish. Excellent. The artistry, creativity and the dance in your mouth satisfaction of the foods was so good! And, I would consider this fine dining, but in a warm, classy, but comfortable setting with very reasonable prices. Can't wait to go again.
