We stayed at Woodward House for 2 nights in September 2012, at the very beginning of a two week road trip and we couldn't have chosen a better place to start our holiday. Bob and Joan were wonderful hosts and we really did arrive as strangers and leave as friends. The breakfast were wonderful, home-cooked fare and we enjoyed chatting to Joan on the porch in the evening. Each of the rooms is unique. Ours was spacious and comfortable. The b&b is in a great location for accessing the skyline drive and for walking in the forest. For an experience of true American hospitality, we would definitely recommend this guesthouse.

Road tripping through Front Royal with some friends and we needed a place to stay the night. We stopped at a gas station to figure things out. While we were searching TripAdvisor we looked up and there was Woodward House. We checked the reviews, made a call, booked, and headed up the hill.

First, Joan and Bob were awesome. Very friendly and great to talk to, they did a fantastic job making us feel welcome. The rooms were very nice, clean, and had everything one would need, even some homemade cookies! The breakfast was awesome. I ordered a vegetable omelet and I literally thought it was made in the garden! Everything was so fresh, even the eggs...they have chickens! Fresh fruit, juice, coffee, delicious cinnamon bun!

So if you're in the area I highly recommend it. It's also less than a mile from the start of Skyline Drive which is a great ride. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We got a room towards the back of the house which was great, we didn't hear any road noise at ni...

My fiance and I had the pleasure of staying with Joan & Bob at their B&B near the entrance of Skyline Drive. The house was perfection the breakfast was divine and the hosts were as full of personality as their home. We had the pleasure of staying in "The Julia Suite" the room was filled with all kinds of treasures as well as goodies to munch on. The fresh baked cookies being a favorite. Our evening was spent mostly on the front porch, we both decided we could sit and pass the time there unending. Our hostess joined us and we spent the evening watching the sun set and learing of the homes history. The following morning we were treated to a delicious home cooked meal and Bobs humor. Needless to say we will return and hopefully soon, what a nice break from the daily grind.

My wife and I invariably stay at bed and breakfast inns when we travel, as we try and avoid cookie cutter hotels. We both agree that our stay at the Woodward House on Manor Grade was the best thus far. The exterior when we drove up the steep driveway caused some caution as it seemed a bit worn. Ah, but looks are deceiving, as we were welcomed by the sweet proprietor Joan as if we were long lost friends. We retired to the the quaint little pub in their living room and had a nice draft craft ale before we even unloaded our luggage. Our stay of 3 days was regrettably too short, as Joan and her husband Bob, and sister Kathy were extremely gracious and treated us like family visiting their quirky, cluttered, invariably interesting inn. We stayed in the Elizabeth's Suite and it was nice having a little separate room for lounging and reading. The breakfasts we had each day were amazing and ample, and we had the good fortune to be here for the Sunday biscuits and gravy special (scratch cheese biscuits and homemade sausage gravy, the best ever.). We will be back to this small piece of paradise soon.

We are a family of 4 and were looking for somewhere to stay near The Shenandoah National Park and Woodward House was recommended in a Lonely Planet Guide. After seeing the rave reviews on Tripadvisor, we decided to book - and I'm so pleased that we did! Everything said in the reviews here is true - Bob and Joan really are the most generous hosts. The breakfasts are amazing, the rooms are charming. Just by way of saying something different - the location is great too!

Joan and her husband made us feel at home from the moment we stepped in the door to the moment we left. The atmosphere was perfect as we looked out over the Blue Ridge. The breakfast was excellent. Thanks for the wonderful time.

Joan and Bob are fantastic hosts and nothing is too much trouble. Everything is freshly baked, even the butter was homemade. It was the best breakfast we have had since arriving in the US a week ago. Woodward house is family orientated and warm and welcoming. They offered complimentary good quality wine and beer and were very friendly, warm and generous hosts.
The location was perfect for our trip along Skyline Drive which commenced a few minutes away.
Thank you Joan & Bob.
