Having visited Luray Caverns in the past, we thought we would try Skyline. Each time we drove past the parking lot it did not seem full so we figured if there were small groups and a tour leaving soon to try it. Both were true to we ventured underground. The caverns were cool and there were neat stories about the discovery of the cave. It was a typical cavern tour that lasted about an hour. There were remarkable looking formations and the tour guide was fun. The cave tour was not something I would necessarily do again but it was worth it. Oh, my mother the senior citizen, was not happy to learn about the 60 steps at the end of the tour.

The lady at the register was impatient and unpleasant and tried to rush us to buy tickets and enter the cave. Being the only persons there, it looked strange to us and made us suspicious.
luckily, we saw right to the register a note, saying that there are 61 (!!) stairs, before purchasing our tickets. 61 stairs mean 4 floors !!
On their web site they say that there are "few" stairs and that there are 12 steps in the cave tour.
When we asked the lady at the register why aren't the 61 stairs mentioned on their web site, she did not answer, she simply left the register and ignored us.
We drove especially to see that attraction, and we left without visiting the cave.
We DO NOT recommend.

This cavern seems more natural than Luray caverns. The floor is dirt instead of rock/concrete, there are fewer lights, and the passageways are narrower. On the other hand, those are probably it main faults, too. Tall visitors will want to be aware of the low headroom in many places on the tour. There is no wheelchair access

Our guide, Brent, made the tour for us. He was engaging with just the right amount of information and anecdotes. I wish he had better explained the anthodites, however, since they are seen in so few places in the world.

While there, we also rode the miniature train. It was fun, but short and over-priced.

We did not visit the mirror maze since it looked like it was closed when we were there.

Great gift shop, vintage feel, great knowledgeable guides, great history and not as commercial as Luray. Smaller and more intimate

I really give very few poor ratings, but after discussing with my wife, I decided this was appropriate. We have visited LOTS of caves over the years and have a good basis for comparison. This particular cave has nothing really spectacular to see. It has a mildly interesting story. Really, we found ourselves wondering, "Where's the beef?" I will say our guide did a good job. Additionally, the admission price of $16 (with AAA discount) each is pretty steep. If you are not very experienced with visiting caves, I would strongly suggest you head a few miles up the highway and visit Luray Caverns.
