“Maybe Ours Was A Bad Day”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

The exterior of the Hotel Floyd is really impressive and inviting and everyone we encountered with the hotel was really nice. We spent one night in the Chateau Morrisette room and when first entering it was impressive and inviting. All went downhill from there. My wife dropped something on the floor and I got a flashlight to look for it. I found the floor need a good cleaning, and after looking around more, the whole room needed a good cleaning - dust was everywhere. The two pillows on the bed, if you laid one on top of the other, still equaled one flat pillow. But the most annoying problem was the squeaking bed. If you laid on the bed and breathed hard, it would squeak. IF we had done more that just try to sleep, everyone in town would have heard us. It wasn't squeaking springs - it was the bed frame - and it appeared as if repairs had been attempted previously, but they did not work. I let the hotel know about the bed and the unclean room, and received a reply that they were having these problems corrected. If they are corrected, I would recommend the hotel, but if you are staying there, I would first check out the room.

Room Tip: Check out your room before unpacking.

Green Features: Per the hotel's information, they are very environmentally friendly!

We would like to apologize for the inconveniences you witnessed at Hotel Floyd. These instances are not typical of our establishment and we've taken corrective action to ensure they don't happen again. We've worked on the squeaky bed with it's maker for some time now and seem to not ever resolve the problem. Maybe it's time to replace it? Again, apologies and we hope you decide to stay at Hotel Floyd again in the future.

We were traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway from Charlottesville, VA to Asheville, NC and wanted an interesting place to spend the night that is about half way between the two cities. I read about the Friday Night Jamborees at the Floyd General Store on TA and it sounded like a total blast. I also read on TA that the Hotel Floyd was a great place to stay and very near the Friday Night Jamboree so I made reservations. My husband and I had a great time at the Jamboree...the locals were so friendly and practically dragged us onto the dance floor. We're from Houston and had never seen Flatfoot dancing before but quickly became hooked! The Hotel Floyd is the perfect place to stay if you want to attend the Jamboree. It is clean, very roomy, and run by nice people. It is also an easy 1/2 block walk to the Jamboree. One more thing about the Hotel Floyd... it is RIGHT NEXT to an historic cemetery (which is the view we had from our window). This might creep some people out...we just closed our curtains and pretended that it wasn't there.

I stayed there with my father during amotorcycle trip. Found it by fluke. The hotel manager only had one suite with two bedrooms left and he cut us a deal. The room was impeccable nicely appointed with wooden furniture and quilts. There was a littlekitchenette and some locally roasted coffee to brew in the morning. The town of Floyd is very nice from the hotel to the shops and restaurants is 100 metres. I think they also have live bands in the summer playing music in the hotel gazebo.
I would definitely stay there again. The rooms are a bit pricey for the location (middle of nowhere) but the building is new so it makes up for it!

We booked a suite (n. 301) and it was like a little house: a wonderful kitchen with all you need, a big table, a comfortable living room, a king bed, two tv and a really huge shower. The owners of the hotel were the best persons we met during our coast to coast trip in United States. Hotel Floyd is near to everything in the little town: Floyd Music Store, Main St., Food Lion. We loved Virginia and, if we could come back in U.S., we will hug again the Hotel Floyd's owners and cook for them italian food.

Nice place to get away for the weekend. Probably not the best mountain view in the world but excellent accommodations nonetheless. We stayed in the Country Store Suite which of course overlooked downtown and the country store.

The beds were fantastic, best nights sleep in a while.

This was our second trip to Floyd, first time at the Hotel Floyd. The room was very spacious, and the furnishings were beautiful. Hand made by a local craftsman. Loved the flooring - looked like bamboo? The bed was very comfortable, and the room was quiet - ours looked across the cemetery! Most of Floyd is closed during the early part of the week, but if you are passing through or looking for an overnight along the Blue Ridge Parkway the Hotel Floyd will to disappoint you.

Green Features: Completely appreciate their efforts and it's a practice that's appealing.

If you go to the Jamboree on Friday nights in Floyd, you've got to treat your self to a stay at the Hotel Floyd. From the outside, it just looks like another motel, but wait until you see your room. Country elegant and quite cozy. Ours looked like a cabin in the woods and the bed was the best ever. Make sure that you go to the Jamboree. Get tickets early and get there early. If you love bluegrass, you'll never hear any finer. The show spills out into the streets where musicians come from all over to put on a show for free. It's only a short walk there and be sure to have breakfast in one of the cool cafes in town.
