“nice wines”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

When we walked into the tasting room, there were several people at the counter with 2 employees tasting the wine. We had no problem waiting, but we weren't even acknowledged. One lady waiting to purchase a bottle of wine walked out because she was being ignored. I thought it was very rude not to acknowledge people, not to say "we'll be with you soon".
That said, when we finally did get to taste the wines, most were very good. We stayed for a lunch of ciabata bread with some local cheeses, olive oil and hummus, and a glass of wine. We really enjoyed that.

“The Best Wine in the Area”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

Villa Appalaccia is a lovely, Tuscan-styled villa on top of the mountains just off the Parkway. The wine is excellent -- reds, whites, sparkling and dessert -- all in the Italian style. There are numerous special events -- olive tastings, music, barrel openings. Bocce ball is always being played on the lawn. Great place!

“Excellent wine tasting, but this winery isn't focused on the tourist experience.”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

My wife and I visited Villa Appalaccia on the Saturday before Labor Day. We came away very impressed with the quality of the wine, the seriousness of the operation, and the education we received in Italian varietals. This is a very small winery on an incredible piece of property. The wine tasting was very nice, if a bit rushed. They are not at all focused on delivering a top-notch tourist experience. These folks are serious about the wine they produce, and that's about it. Two former UNC Chapel Hill scientists raised their family, and retired to the Blue Ridge to make serious wine. They are achieving that goal, and now produce the finest wines in the area. Kudos to them for living out their dream!

“Nice View, Great Wine but too many Fruit Flies”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

We really enjoyed getting to this winery. A nice drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway and a short stretch down a dirt road. The tasting room was nice as was the person conducting the tasting. The wines were nice (if not a little higher in price than the others in the area). The problem came from the jar into which you pour your extra wine. It was overflowing with fruit flies that flew into your eyes, mouth and wine.

“Great Italian Style Wines”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

We enjoy the wines and find the staff helpful and friendly. We went for their wnemakers dinner. The food was fantastic! We ususally get the cheese and bread to enjoy with a glass of wine.
