Had an amazing meatball sub sandwich for lunch. Hot, spicy, generous sized meatballs. Ridged french fries, almost steak fries, lightly flavored with basil and garlic. Not used to such nicely priced food, coming from California.

“Jumping joint”
Reviewed April 9, 2014

We ate here during a recent pleasure trip to Floyd, Va. The food was well-done and plentiful. The service was friendly and fast. It seemed very popular with locals.

The restaurant is in a strip shopping mall, but it makes the most of the atmosphere inside.

“The Garlic Palace”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

This restaurant is very popular … even for locals, so that is a good sign. I love true Italian food and they claim that is their specialty. However, Mickey G's serves "American" style Italian food which differs significantly from what you will find in Italy. The main difference is that "American" Italian food is laced with high sulfur allium vegetables: garlic, onions, leeks, chives, etc. The majority of Americans can't get enough of these foods and if you fall into that category you will, indeed, enjoy Mickey G's. However, if you find allium foods unappealing you will be hard pressed to eat their food. Even if you provide the server detailed instructions the cooks will doubt your seriousness.

I have eaten in many restaurants in Italy. I know that Italian cooking need not be loaded with garlic. I have eaten in a few "Italian" restaurants in this country that hold fast to the standards set in Europe. Mickey G's is not in that category.

Aside from this seasoning problem their food is well prepared, the service is great and it is a wonderful atmosphere. I am just tired of cooks who ignore my requests and decide I must be mistaken…and they sprinkle garlic salt all over my meal prior to sending it to the table.

“Great Food in Floyd”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

This is a multi-generational family restaurant, with true Italian roots, through New York. Why did they move to Floyd? Who wouldn't? They use local produce, indigo Farms Seafood, and have gluten-free selections. My favorite is the veggie antipasto to start, and the specials are true masterpieces. If you last to dessert, they are authentic, crunchy, creamy, not pre-frozen. The employees are truly caring about your experience, never cold, even during a rush.
