I've been eating and drinking at the White Horse for over 40 years. It's recent past has been chequered to say the least. I won't go into the history here, but no doubt others who've been here over the last 5 or 6 years will know what I mean. We went there for a family birthday lunch this weekend. We'd booked and expected to have seats in the main restaurant, but for some reason were seated in the bar area. This wasn't an issue we thought initially, but as the meal went on we realised we were being rather deserted by the staff. Three times I had to get up, go to the bar and ask for service. Disappointing.
That said, the food was excellent, if rather slow arriving. We live locally and will probably give it one more go, but quite frankly there are so many good pubs and restaurants in this area now, it's unlikely the White Horse will get much repeat business from locals unless they can up their game.More
