First time eating at this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. Not sure about the bad reviews from yelp but our experience was fairly good. This place easily beat many of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in NYC. The place is small and crowded with no waiting area so be prepared to wait outside the restaurant especially on the weekends. The food was great, especially the rice dishes and the portion was rather large. We tried the spring rolls - they were good but expensive, $4 for 2.

This was my first introduction to Vietnamese food and thank god for that. A friend of mine is an expert on the cuisine knowing that he had lived in the region and he recommended that we go there. First off, I advise reservation on weekend since it was full. luckily we were only 2 so we got a table after 30 minutes. We ordered a lot and our waitress actually told us that it was too much for 2 people. I appreciated that. Now to the food. It was divine. I am in love. Their Chicken with lemongrass was one of the best things I have had. Even their seafood spring rolls were good. My friend had somethings with pork and he was really impressed at how well their were cooked. I am going back very soon.

We ate here several times and it's very popular -- during weekends you have to get here by noon or earlier to get a table. The food is very good and they have a fairly good selection of wines as well. It's more polished than other Vietnamese restaurants and that may be the reason why it's the latest hot restaurant in Eden Center (we have been coming here since the 1980s when it all started).

As for food, we typically have a duck salad, the Hu Tieu noodle, and a glass of Pinot Noir -- just perfect for a weekend lunch. There are tons of other dishes, some of which we have tried at other times and they are all very good.

We came on a Saturday after the lunch time rush and were seated within minutes. Definitely not a typical Vietnamese restaurant. Simple and nice decor. Lots of good dishes. We mainly tried the escargot in coconut curry, escargot with ginger, beef wrap in grape leaves, bun bo hue, rice roll combo 1 and pho. The escargot dishes were definitely a big hit with our table. Extremely well cooked... the escargot was tender with a light crunch... the sauce had just the right amount of coconut. The beef wrapped in grape leave was moist and full of the onion oil scented flavor accented with the taste of grape leave. (Actually it should not be grape leave, but I don't know what the other type of leave is called.) The rice paper dish was well presented and the varieties of beef were tasty. The pho was ok... slightly sweet for our taste. Vietnamese are not known for restaurant service and it shows. Once the food is out, you don't see the server again until the bill. In our case, it took forever to get the bill but we did finally got the bill. Come to enjoy the awesome food and just ignore the service!

Had another great lunch at Rice Paper today. Arrived around noon. Restaurant was not full, but was packed by the time we left.

Ordered #102: Grilled lemongrass beef served with steamed vermicelli. It is one of their “Lettuce and Rice Paper wraps” served with lettuce, basil, mint, shredded cucumber, pickled carrots, and daikon radish. Tender strips of beef came skewered on three bamboo sticks accompanied by fresh, beautiful greens piled high. Delicious and refreshing!

And #38: Vietnamese Style Oven-Roasted Chicken marinated in garlic on yellow rice. My husband loved his He-Man size portion of chicken quarter, marinated and seasoned with a crispy skin. It was packed with flavor and very tender.

We lived ¼ mile from here a few years back and continue to patronize many of the Eden Center restaurants. Rice Paper is a wonderful addition—a light-filled room with a hip décor, an adventurous menu, great service, and quality food at affordable prices. Love it!

Day 15: 4,046 miles. It’s good to be home.
