OK, I guess I should review the actual Patriot Center and not the band we saw :) (But Green Day was amazing). Anyway the Patriot Center was great. The staff were nice and helpful. We were standing in line for 7 hours before the show, so we had a lot of encounters with the staff. They were great. We were in the third row of the concert, and security was great too. They were nice, offered water to a couple of us who got dehydrated, and kept all the crowd surfers from landing on my head. The door management was a bit strange. There were 3 different entrance doors where people were lined up, and some people had a forced will call. So we were in line, then had to go to will call, then get back in line. Even if you were there all day you could easily lose your place in all the line-switching. There was an effort by some fans of keeping everyone organized by writing numbers on our hands. That was strange. Anyway but overall I was happy with the Patriot Center.

Thank Kristen B

I like the size of this venue compared to other larger arenas ( I think capacity is like 10,000 for a concert) but there is no public transportation in the so called "city" of fairfax that takes you close ( the metro bus drops you about a mile away on the opposite side of he campus) trying to get a cab ride home ( even when called to reserve a ride the previous day) is a complete joke as it's just a mad dash to be he first party to jump into any of the cabs that pull up. It took my friend and I about an hour to get picked up... In the dark...in the middle of the night...on the side of the road...super crappy way to end a night out.

With convenient parking and first-rate events, the Patriot Center is a great venue for entertainment -- concerts and music shows as well as sports events. Plenty of parking on campus (parking fee is included in ticket price). Easily accessible from Fairfax County locations as well as locations in Arlington, Chantilly, and DC.

We went to a rock concert. The acoustics weren't bad, but they weren't great either. The veiws from everywhere but the floor are bad-my neck was sore the next day from looking sideways.
The overpriced food and beers were OK.
Getting into and out of the arena was a nightmare. It was a Friday evening, so we dealt with the normal rush-hour compounded by the concert traffic. It was almost as bad as the Nissan Pavilion (where I will never go again).
My friends said it is a great venue for kids shows and not as hard to get to on the weekends.

We have seen several shows here, most recently Disney on Ice, which was a good show for the venue. No seat is too far away to get a good view, there is ample (not room by any means) room for people to sit and the seats are not uncomfortable. The Patriot Center is obviously best equipped for basketball games, which we have also enjoyed here, as the lighting is okay, the walkways are ample and the concessions are appropriate. For children's shows (we have also seen Sesame Street Live here), there are always extra vending tables with fun souveniers and programs for the kids. What you won't find here is "real" food or appropriate cups/concessions for kids, other than popcorn and icees, and be prepared for unfortunate circumstances like being poked with a kids toy from the back of your head or a spill from an oversized, no-top kid-inappropriate cup being spilled from a seat behind you. The ushers are super great about getting you to your seats and generally, you can find a bathroom without a line, but be prepared during kids shows to have some obstructed view or being kicked in the back of your seat from behind. If you have a small kid, bring your own booster seat.

For musical shows/concerts, go elsewhere. The acoustics are terrible. We tried to see Daughtry here and it was aweful. This is, after all, a sports venue, and unlike the Verizon Center, it wasn't made to multitask. Musical concerts were an after thought. Be prepared for drunk people trying to go up and down the stairs, with open, overfilled beer cups, knocking into you on their way up the steps, particularly the lower-area scaffolding steps, which, when used, are very, very unstable.

Sometimes you are not allowed to take pictures, and they will come and find you - they were really strict at Sesame Street Live.

If you get past this, there is the parking, which is awful - worse than Nissan Pavillion. If you want to leave at intermission and miss the second half of a show, then you might get a head start. Otherwise, go to the bathroom, grab a soda and be prepared to sit for 45 minutes to get out of a lot - less for kids shows, but not by much.

We enjoy this venue for low price (check Certifikid and Groupon for codes closer to the show - don't pay full price) kids shows, but go to Verizon Center for bands.
