“Excellent Dog-Friendly Hotel”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

We travel with our little dog which restricts our choice of hotel. We were very happy with this one. We have been traveling back and forth to Florida for several years now and my husband actually told me that he thinks this has been the best so far! The hotel seems rather new. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Conveniently located off 95, there is an Applebees across the parking lot which gives a 10% discount for those staying in the hotel. There is also a Cracker Barrel. We chose Applebees so we could get a cocktail! The included breakfast was what you would expect. Satisfactory. My only negative is the water in the shower never got as hot as I like – but I like it pretty hot. This was not a problem. We would definitely stay again.

The inside Spa closed, pool closed, for how long they don't know, maybe when more quests show up... They were closed last month also. The room we had and it's Jacuzzi tub fils with water but won't turn on as the switch won't work. There's a teensy mini-fridge in the room replacing the "normal" sized mini-fridge which had beed removed and the hole boarded over. See the pic. The carpenter did a rather good job at it as you can see. The larger style minis are about double the ~$45. cost of the teensy fridge replacement. We need the slightly larger size for our normal amount of food from the small ice chest. It's just another way this chain is not the better quality it used to be. There's no TV scroll=NOT GOOD as changing the channel each 1/2 hour to see what's on is too wearing on road weary quests.
Coffee and breakfast is still what you need from Country Inn so very good. Thankfully the room smelled good and seemed clean.

Stopped on our way south with two dogs ...$20 pet fee for each dog. Room was comfortable and clean. Bed was great..but personally I hate those little hotel pillows. Another plus was that there was an Applebees and Cracker Barrel within walking distance. The bad side of our stay was the next morning when we couldn't figure out how to run the shower ...tried to call the desk and phone wouldn't work. (You pull down on what looks to be the aerator portion of the faucet) but we didn't find that out until we were dressed ...the toilet seat was also falling off and there was no way to get back inside if you go out the back door without walking all the way back out front.

We stayed here one night. The room was a one bedroom suite. It was small for a suite but it did the job. The night clerk was indifferent and not friendly. The morning staff was gracious. The location was excellent. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Avoid room on second floor at the top of the stairs.

We stayed at this hotel as our overnight stop on our way down to SC. We got a good price with Priceline. The room was comfortable, clean and spacious, The odd thing was they gave us a handicap room, which means the shower area is practically level with the bathroom floor. We settled in before realizing it and went to the front desk to inquire about it. Apparently, Priceline guests get handicap rooms, which the hotel staff said they have no control over, and agreed it was strange. They did offer to move us to another room, but we didn't want to bother. We were too tired and exhausted from being on the road all day but did appreciate the offer. The front desk did say if we stayed there again, they would be sure to give us a non handicap room; obviously they should be used for someone who actually needs it. Breakfast was included and was typical, but fine. Fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal, eggs, bacon, biscuits, commercial muffins.

Room Tip: if you book through Priceline, make sure you do not get a handicap room, unless of course you reques...

We were traveling to Florida from Pennsylvania and needed a place to stay. We left a day early due to a major snow storm coming to our area. We usually stay in Florence, South Carolina but this was last minute and we left at noon. We picked Emporia, VA because we didn't want to drive at night. It was okay. The room on first blush was typical. We had food to put in the fridge and when I opened the door it had an odor that smelled like an Italian sub and crumbs in it. When I went to use the microwave it was filthy on the outside and also on the inside. So I cleaned it up before using any of the appliances. This was all in one piece of furniture which I like but if you provide these things you should pay attention to the cleanliness of them. Also after finding the crumbs and dirt on that stuff I checked out the air conditioner unit and found huge crumb like pieces of something in the vents. The king size bed was uncomfortable and the breakfast wasn't as good as other Country Inn & Suites. Would I stay there again? No. But since we had to rush to beat the storm it was okay for one night.

Although located behind an Applebees and Cracker Barrell Pub, access is by only one driveway poorly marked on a very busy road - took two wrong turns trying to find and get access. Then it took 10+ minutes to check in although there was only one person ahead of us - no idea why it took so long, no apologies from the clerk. Asked for quiet room - got one at end of hall, however, it was next to the stair well. Room was nicely renovated, but found the bed was not as comfortable as it looked. As we retired it was noisy - people were running up and down the halls and stairway, banging the door right next to us on the way. At midnight, after being woken up by the noise, we called, and the clerk must have found the trouble makers because it quieted down. We also found that the hotel was near the train line, and you could clearly hear the horns of the freight trains as they approached the intersections - not a positive for quiet. Breakfast Sat morning did not start until 7, which is late when you want to get back on the road. We had to wait for spoons for the cereal, and there were no muffins or sweet rolls. We were asked when we checked out how things were, and we told the person at the desk everything we said above. She was not happy about the muffins as she said she had ordered them - and she got up and got us a plateful for the road - this was a nice touch. Since you have many choices in this area of 95, would skip this one unless you had to.

Room Tip: Avoid being next to a stairwell.
