The hotel was great and there were all kinds of benefits to staying at this location. The free shuttle bus is a huge plus because our entire family (all 11 of us) could ride together to and from Kings Dominion with out the stress of parking at the park. Also, we never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a ride to or from the park. They offer a great free breakfast, along with free coffee and cookies all day. There is a nice area in the lobby to gather your group together before you go to the park and there are even books to help entertain the children. The staff was exceedingly nice and took care of any questions we had. We do not get the chance to take vacations as a entire family often, but we all decided that we will go back to Kings Dominion and will definitely stay at Country Inn and Suites Doswell. The hotel was very affordable, and for the price I was very pleasantly surprised by the level of service we received and the great value staying there was for our family.

We stayed at this location on a Friday night in conjunction with a trip to King's Dominion. If visiting the park, you couldn't ask for a better location... this is right outside the exit! It was great, because half way through the day, we took a break from the park and went to check into the hotel and cool off and relax.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is pretty new, so everything was nice and clean. Our room was a good size and had a refrigerator and microwave. The beds and linens were very comfortable. There was a great variety at breakfast, and plenty of everything even though it was VERY crowded at breakfast time.

As some other reviews mention. this hotel is near the train tracks, so there is noise from that. However, on our Friday night stay, the train only came by at 9:00pm, before we were sleeping, at 1:30am, and then 7:30am when we were already awake. So only the one time was during the night, and it was only loud for a minute. And yes, we requested a room on the front side of the hotel, but it did not dampen the train noise.

There is a downside that we have noticed at other Country Inn properties, in that they don't seem to do much soundproofing to walls or ceilings. So there was noticeable noise from guests around us, especially in the morning. Even the plumbing was loud.

Even with the downsides, this property is the nicest one close to the park, and our stay was still fine. We wouldn't have any problem staying here again. You can even get discounted park tickets here, in case you didn't get a good online deal before you came. The hotel offers a shuttle to the park as well, if you don't want to pay the $15 parking at King's Dominion. And honestly, this location is close enough you could even walk over if you really wanted to.

Room Tip: Top floor to eliminate noise overhead.

If you get a suite, there is a chance that you'll be at the very back of the hotel RIGHT NEXT to a railroad track. On a Saturday evening we had one train go through at about 2am but overall that was the only downside. They now have Shuttle Service to Kings Dominion again and the facility is very clean and new. We tend to love the Country Inn and Suites chain because it is so consistant. The breakfast was SUPER crowded so there were no waffles to be had unless you waited in a ten minute line. The manager was super nice and even offered us an upgrade on our next stay to accomodate for the train noise. We appreciated him preparing us for and apologizing in advance for that little setback. Easily the best Kings Dominion hotel.

Room Tip: If you get a suite just ask for one not by the railroad track. They will tell you in advance to expe...

We really enjoyed staying here and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful with providing information and assisting us with whatever we needed which made or trip even more enjoyable than we ever could have imagined! We were made to feel right at home and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. It was so much better than the place we stayed at in Williamsburg.

We found this hotel in a discount hotel booklet, and stayed there one night going south. The room is large, clean and bed is comfortable. This hotel has a nice pool with a jacuzzy. The breakfast is well diversified. We heard a train passing by, but it was not annoying at all, in fact it added a nice touch of country side. Of course, we stayed again at this hotel on our way back home. We recommend this hotel.

On Wednesday, May 21, 2014, my wife and I contacted this hotel from Exit 89 I-95 North which is 10 minutes away. We spoke with a gentleman, Geno, regarding room availability. We were actually in the parking lot of Country Inn & Suites, Ashland, VA who had just cancelled our room without warning and without providing any assistance to find another room. Let it be noted it was 9:00 p.m. on a Holiday Weekend and my wife is pregnant. We arrived at the hotel and met Geno at the front desk. Geno was so gracious and kind as we explained our situation and what took place at the other location. Also, please note these two hotels ARE NOT owned by the same people. Geno gave us a cheaper rate and a better room than the other location. We were completely satisfied with the County Inn & Suites, Doswell, VA location. However, if you ever have the misfortune of visiting Country Inn & Suites, Ashland, VA save your money and travel 10 minutes to Exit 98 off of I-95 North and stay in Doswell. Well worth the 10 minute drive! If you ever have the privelege of staying at this fine establishment please ask to speak to Geno. He will take care of you!! Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

My husband and I booked a nonrefundable room via the computer (slightly cheaper room if booked at least 14 days ahead of stay). We chose this option because we had every intention on attending the Hot Air Balloon festival which was within minutes of the hotel. Unfortunately, there was a fatal accident with one of the balloons on Friday night, so the entire festival (both Saturday & Sunday) were cancelled and well it should have been because of the tragic circumstances. We decided that we would still stay the night at the hotel on Saturday night. We arrived around 5:30p to find the hotel with tons of kids running around very loudly. We went to our room and found a lot of white short hair all over the bedspread, gross! We packed our bathing suits and went to check out the pool. The pool was extremely small and filled with loud children. The weather was off and on drizzle, so perhaps instead of being at King's Dominion, the kids were in the pool? We decided to go eat dinner but our GPS showed us there were no close by restaurants other than fast food. While we were in our room, we heard a loud noise made by the train that runs behind the hotel. Our room was in the front of the hotel, and it was still very loud. We informed the front desk of the hair on the bedspread and informed them we decided to go home. The man at the front desk was pleasant and offered us a free upgrade to a suite and remarked that they had a lot of cancellations due to the festival being cancelled. We declined, he reminded us that we had a nonrefundable room but if we should decide to return, he would give us 30% off our next visit. I found this to be strange, why not give us 30% credit now? Considering the hair on the bedspread, loud train, loud kids, no nearby restaurant, we will not return. The hotel really has nothing to offer unless you are going to King's Dominion in which they provide a free shuttle.
